Yesterday our TV died, we have bought a new TV and I connected our freeview box (Hauppauge DEC 110-T to it, it does not work when the box is switched on, only when its off and the signal strength seem to be affected for some reason, it was fine on the old set. The TV is a Swisstec flat screen, excellent picture much better than the old one, but not being able to get all the freeview programmes is driving me mad.....
any ideas please.................. I have tried re installing it but nothing I really cannot afford to buy a freeview airel, we had perfect reception on the old one.........I can get some programmes but not others..........

How have you connected the box to the TV?
Can you explain what you mean when you say the TV doesn't work?0 -
Yes the box is connected to the TV, when I put the set top box on and try to use the channels nothing happens, but if the box is switched off I can access some of the channels but on others get a message showing that the reception is low....on my old TV I never had any problems with the reception it was always fine.......I really am at a loss, there are quite a few programmes on freeview that we like to watch and it is quite frustrating.

No I meant HOW is it connected? Are you using a scart cable or the RF(aerial) lead? If you are using the RF lead have you tuned in your new TV so you can see the output from the box.when I put the set top box on and try to use the channels nothing happens, but if the box is switched off I can access some of the channels but on others get a message showing that the reception is low.
If the box is switched off, you will not receive any channels apart from the normal analogue channels 1- 5. Unless you have bought a TV with a digital tuner? What model is your new TV?

Can you please tell me exactly what connections you have and how they are connected.0 -
There is a scart lead and also the co-ax lead, both of which are connected as per the instructions in the handbook.......the Hauppauge 1100T is on the internet and there are detailed instructions there.
The TV is a SWISSTEC LCD when the stb is switched off I can recieve some of the freeview channels, when it is switched on I get nothing.....this is what I cannot understand, it says on the box that it has a built in tuner, manufactured in Slovakia.

So when you switch on your box, dose the TV show a blank screen or what?
All TVs have a built in tuner. Is it a digital tuner or an analogue tuner?
What Freeview channels can you get with the box off?
You say the TV is a Swisstec - does it have a model number?0 -
When the box is switched on the screen is blank, I think its an analogue tuner, it doesn't say anything on the box about a digital tuner. The model number is J20/lcd..........with the box off we can get BBC 1 & 2 none of the ITV channels, BBC news 24, I have not really checked anything else. On the instructions it says the TV is a UMC 20" LCD TV manufactured by sky media manufacturing SA.
I am not a techie as you will have gathered and I get very frustrated when I come up against problems that seem to have no logical reason to them especially when the box was working fine.
When you switch the TV on this is what the instruction say
If you intend to connect cable/satellite/freeview/DVD player etcto scart connector, you need to select scart by pressing input on remote control until scart is displayed on screen. No further tuning is necessary......I just found this on the internetwww.skymediamanufacturing.com model J20

OK let's start at the beginning with the TV.
You say you have to press input until scart is displayed on the screen. I am assuming you have done this and that is when you get a blank screen?
At the moment I'm guessing that the TV can't support RGB and your Freeview box is set for RGB and so you get a blank picture.
Let's try this a different way. Have you used the auto-search funstion to search for all available programmes?0 -
Yes I did this , it loads as it should the box Hauppauge DEC1100 -T can be seen at price runner, not sure if the technical details are here though.......is there any way we can acertain if the TV supports RGB (what ever that is)

RGB = Red, Green, Blue. It's basically a better quality output but if the TV doesn't support RGB and you box is set for that you will only get a blank picture.
The manual is here but it doesn't mention what the scart is capable of;

I'm also a bit surprised you can only get BBC1, 2 & BBC 24 if you have tuned the TV. As Albertross asks - how is you aerail connected?0 -
The arial is plugged into the inpoint on the stb and then into the TV, the scart plug is connected to the stb and then to the scart socket on the TV.
