Can you try something for me please?
Make sure your Freeview box is on but slect TV as your input instead of scart. You said you had BBC News 24 - as this is a digital programme your TV may be picking this up from your box via the RF(aerial) lead.
So select whatever channel BBC News 24 is on. The use your Freeview remote and change channels on you Freeview box. Do not change channels on your TV.
What happens - do you get the other Freeview channels0 -
tootles wrote:When the box is switched on the screen is blank, I think its an analogue tuner, it doesn't say anything on the box about a digital tuner. The model number is J20/lcd..........with the box off we can get BBC 1 & 2 none of the ITV channels, BBC news 24, I have not really checked anything else. On the instructions it says the TV is a UMC 20" LCD TV manufactured by sky media manufacturing SA.
First of all, do you actually mean that you switch the box off or do you mean switch to standby? The box should never be switched off i.e. disconected from the supply. It does not make any sense when you say that you get BBC News24 with the box switched off.tootles wrote:The arial is plugged into the inpoint on the stb and then into the TV, the scart plug is connected to the stb and then to the scart socket on the TV.
The aerial should be plugged into the Aerial IN socket on the box. Then you should either use the scart lead to the TV or the co-ax lead from the Aerial OUT to the TV. There is no point using both leads!

HTH
There is a point to having both leads connected.
The aerial lead needs to be connected to the TV so that you can receive channels 1-5 as analogue channels. This is usually required when you are recording a digital channel from Freeview and want to watch something else on the TV.
The scart lead is usually the best method of connection from the box to the TV as it gives a much better picture and ease of use(normally).0 -

But no video or DVD recorder has been mentioned in this particular case!
For the co-ax loopthough to work the box needs to be in standby and not switched off. I think that it is more a case of FTFM's.

True. I am assuming(perhaps wrongly) that there might be a VCR.For the co-ax loopthough to work the box needs to be in standby and not switched off. I think that it is more a case of FTFM's.
For the non-technically minded switched off and standby is exactly the same0 -

The box appears to be receiving programmes when the box is on stanby, not actually switched off, I switch the box and TV off every night when we go to bed..... we have both a VCR and DVD but have to get scart leads to connect these up, already have the splitter but not in use as yet........
I have been out all morning, will try what JEM has mentioned shortly, have a couple of things to get out of the way before I try to wrestle with this problem today.

I believe that you are misinterpreting the red standby LED.
Bright red LED = Standby
Dull red LED = ON

This makes no sense at all. If the box is on standby it cannot output any programme.
Could you elaborate what you mean by "standby" and "switched off" and "on".
I know that sounds like a stupid question but your understanding of the terms may be different to mine and we need to clarify them before we even think about VCR and DVD.0
