I do,always have and we've been married 36 years.Nowadays he comes with me but while I shop he looks at CDs,mobiles ect.In any case he would'nt know what to buy if it was left to him.Best kept that way I think.

I do love the women on MSE who are always trying to 'train' their partners and moaning about them, you picked them, perhaps it would have been better to get a ready trained one!

For the record my wife does the big shops and I tend to do the adhoc shopping for things we've forgotten or things we didn't realise we would need. She doesn't work at the moment so it's easier for her to do it. When we both worked I did virtually all the shopping as I worked shifts then and it was easier for me to do it. I still do most of the cooking although now my wife tends to plan the menus around whatever bargains she's bought. So when I get in from work I get told what we're having and cook that.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

    i do the shop.

basically i can do a weekly shop in about 20 mins, whilst taking out many grannies and families who decide that they're weekly day out is round Tesco!

basically wrap the back of their ankles and "apologise", generally they move out of the way after the first time, they definitely do after the second time! lol

don't get me wrong i know parents can't leave the kids at home alone, but why can't they be left at home with one of the parents, instead of the WHOLE family of 5 descending on the aisles.

it's not difficult, create the shopping list as it's laid out in the shop and vrrroooom away you go.

I am telling you, they are all capable of doing the blooming food shopping, its not rocket science, but they all play that 'I don't mind doing it, but I'm not very good..' card, or they go and buy a load of cr&p, so you don't ask them to do it again. OH is just as good as me now, his mum did everything for him before, so he needed a little bit of guidance but it was worth it - its good to share the load!

I do most of the shopping in our house because I only work sporadically - and I shop carefully for bargains and special offers. DH occasionally comes with me in the evening if I do a quick top up shop, but has no idea of prices generally.

He recently told someone we spent about £20 ish per week on groceries:eek:. I Wish! There are 5 of us, all adults/teens and a cat, plus DD's 6ft3 boyfriend at weekends.....I am chuffed to bits if I keep it down to £80 per week!

……..Who does the shopping in your houses MSE-ers?............

I thought it was the busy little fairy that cleans the bathroom and sorts the washing out.

I’ve never seen her but Mrs Vaio often says something like “who do you think cleans the bathroom? The fairies?”

DH comes shopping with me and follows me round with the trolley - I hate it when he dawdles and I'm there with an armful of milk, butter and cheese cos he's suddenly become interested in a BOGOF battenburg

It's quite funny cos he also uses the dawdle technique to sneak things in the trolley when I'm not looking !
  • I am going to start doing the shopping when OH is away working, cos when he comes with me, he is always sticking stuff like blank cds, crisps, biscuits and sweets in the trolley. If he wants that he can go out and buy it himself, not from the food shopping budget.

I also do everything else in the house, washing, cooking, cleaning, general maintenance, everything to do with the kids. He mostly sits at his computer playing his guitar and mixing music stuff.

Right, so with your logic we don't bring the kids shopping.
    They grow up.
Then complain to their partners that they are no good at shopping.
And their partners come on here and complain.

No, I'm sorry. Things we can do as a family we do as a family.
There's all sorts of learning to be done in a supermarket.
Plus they can be involved in choosing the food. The more involved they are with food the more likely they are to eat the stuff when it is on a plate. (And anything that helps with that in our house [well, with the kids anyway!] is worth doing.)

Do you have a 24hr supermarket near you?
Have you tried going at different times?
If you go late in the evening / night there won't be too many kids in the way and you can whizz round happily.
