I've noticed that Lakeland are doing some microwaveable slippers - I think I might get some next week.
I've seen them: I just don't fancy putting my cheesey slippers in the microwave if I'm going to cook in it as well ...

jaybee, I need a bath to warm my bones too ! thats what I say when I get too cold. Nothing beats heating a body than a bath.

However I cant jump straight into a hot bath...my feet are usually white, especially my toes, so I have to add hot water once they start going pink again!

Like S-S not sure about micro wave and slippers though!!!
  • I suffer from this too and find that Ginger really helps. Take a pack of Ginger biscuits to dunk in your tea at half time. Add a few drops of Ginger essential oil to your hot bath when you get back. You can also add it to massage oil to rub you feet and hands with to help get the blood moving again. Black Pepper is another oil that is good for this.

Hope this helps - alternatively could you watch from the car with the heaters on? :D

  • The slippers have a zip up bit that the heat pads go in, so you just put those bits in the microwave not the whiffy bit, and zip back in when warm.
  • I have been doing a bit of research myself on this because of concerns of effects Ginkgo may have on other supplements. I'm presently taking Glucosamine & Omega 3 fish oil for my joints.

    I found that:

Gingko may alter the way the liver breaks down herbs and supplements.

Based on human study, ginkgo may theoretically affect insulin and lower blood sugar levels. Caution is advised when using herbs or supplements that may also affect blood sugar. Blood glucose levels may require monitoring, and doses may need adjustment. Possible examples include: Aloe vera , American ginseng, bilberry, bitter melon, burdock, fenugreek, fish oil, gymnema, horse chestnut seed extract (HCSE), marshmallow, milk thistle, Panax ginseng, rosemary, Siberian ginseng, stinging nettle and white horehound. Agents that may raise blood sugar levels include arginine, cocoa, and ephedra (when combined with caffeine).

Anyway my main concern is, would it be OK to carry on using these supplements whilst taking Ginkgo or should I stop using them until the dosage is finished?

Do you find that Gingo works?

I tried it , and ginger and just about every alternative there is and nothing works for me!

If it works for you then ii think you will have to weigh up things unless you can get proper advice. (if it had worked for me I would just have had ginko during the winter and others in the summer, I have read about its effect on other supplements).

I gave up and saw the doctor and got medication, again weighing up the pros and cons first, But my feet were just too painful (skin blistering after 2 weeks of being nipped by the cold ..... its actually early signs of frost bite!) .

I don’t suffer anything as severe as you have mentioned, however, I do tend to suffer with white finger syndrome when it gets cold especially when the cold northerlies blow. Maybe like you I should talk to my doctor about this but in the meantime I have ordered some Ginkgo from SimplySupplements owing to fact that they are now selling these cheaper than ZipVit. I think I will give them ago until the dosage is finish and then go back to taking Glucosamine & Omega 3 Fish Oil unless someone advises otherwise. For me I think trying to sort this out is more important than my joints because I know I can suffer a little bit of pain then having to put up with this. After all it’s only very slight compared to what some people have to put up with. I tend to only get pains first thing in the mornings in my fingers, and ankles which have accord quite recently and stiffness during the day. If Ginkgo doesn’t have any affect I have made up my mind to seek medical advice from my doctor.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that if you or anyone else you might know who is taking Ginkgo and are presently using any anti-coagulants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-platelet drugs please use with caution and seek avice. It is advised not to use this supplement whilst taking warfarin, aspirin, heparin and there are a few others listed in the link below, I do advise people to read it before purchasing Ginkgo.

I am wondering if there are any common factors that I have not read about....

    I have low/ average blood pressure ...90 to 100 over 60

    and
low/ average body temperature at around 96 f

I have never got over 98 scince I started measuring daily, I take it, first thing in the morning and its at its highest then at 97, or very slightly over.

I started doing this after I thought I was getting near to hypothermia a few weeks ago ! Sounds dramatic, but possibly true if I start off low there is not much leeway!
  • Well I feel the cold and try to spend winter somewhere warm. I always want the heating on long before everyone else and have a high tog duvet even in summer. Oh and this last summer when everyone was too hot to sleep - it didn't bother me at all. AND by rights I should be menopausal but have never had a hot flush or night sweat in fact I would welcome feeling too hot!
