Thanks Martin for putting this, been caught out by Vistaprint in the past and discussed this on here with people before - I managed to get my money back but they are so sneaky with these things, lots of teeny tiny small print and ticking and un-ticking of boxes - when you're placing an order for something and the telly is on and the dog is barking your husband is asking you what you're doing for tea then it's easy to get distracted and accidentally sign up. I turned one down lately after placing an order with PetPlanet, don't know if I would have spotted it if I hadn't been caught out by this before...

... also people please be warned about "Privacy Guard" another sneaky rip off that I accidentally signed up for because I thought I was signing for something else, very ambiguously worded to catch you out - they're supposed to monitor identity theft and your data security and before you know it they've taken £69.99 off you - I signed up once without realising, but then signed up again knowingly with the view to cancel before the trial ended, so for a company that is supposed to monitor your personal identity usage they can't be doing a very good job if they allow you to sign up twice! Managed to get my money back from them too.

Something should be done about these companies, they're conning people and they know it, it might be spelled out in the small print but they use sneaky tactics and they know what they are doing. It can't be a good service if they have to fool people into signing up. Speaks for itself really doesn't it

I agree with this. I've just had a company (50 Plus of Lever Street Manchester) who have sent me an unsolicited statement saying that not only do I owe them £10 - which they said if I paid I'd get 10% discount for a year - but they were now charging me 26p for not paying it! Needless to say they have a 0871 phone number at 10p per minute, but they do have a geographic number in 'saynoto0870'.
I have phoned and written saying I want no more to do with them and I'm not paying anything.

Same thing happened to me after I made a reservation through lastminute.com. I got billed by some High Street Discount Club. It took me a while to realise how it had happened but they refunded the money after of couple of emails.

My daughter got caught out with Vistaprint! They took money of her for months!

  • I got caught with this as well and I have just found out, 8 months of payments at 8 pounds a month. I feel such a fool. I now remember ticking a box when booking a flight with Easyjet.

    A complete scam.
  • It is a big scam! I nearly got caught out after booking a flight with Easyjet, but luckily I realised about the £8 per month before I completed the form. It's similar to certain airlines where they automatically include travel insurance, unless you unclick the box (although I'm not certain but I think they got told off about that didn't they?).
