Trust Me Mr E when a troll posts you will know. There is a diffence between a difference of opinion and troll post. Some people do post what they feel and it can be taken the wrong way. That does not mean they are a troll.
Depends as well on what board you are on. The DFW board is generally good natured but if you venture elsewhere ( I will not mention names here ) the difference will be noticable.
If for any reason you see a troll post (Or spam) there is a report button (Red Triangle) which alerts the post to the abuse team.

EDIT... RAS beat me to it. :0)0 -
I was going to ask this question the other day .... I assume this forum is "moderated" in some way. I see a lot of people on here as "Fantastically Fervent MoneySaving Super Fan"'s that look to spend a lot of time of here and at very "odd" times of the day (7/24) ... do some of you act as actual "moderators"? or shouldn't I ask?
Just interested ...

No the forum isn't moderated at all. We have board guides who have limited abilities like moving posts in the wrong place and locking threads so that MSE HQ can remove them before they get to bad. Fermi is a BG on here and is fantastic.
Those of us that have been here a while and posted lotsntend to just report trolls and spam as soon as they appear. We are very used to giving them short shift.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

Just a quick bump for the attention of all new folks on the BR board today !!!
Notice to newcomers re trolls.
Hi everybody.
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.
If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.
what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?
firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.
The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!
It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.0 -
this thread is for support and encouragement, not for name calling and censure and criticism.
I have reported the above post.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
& me Donna.....I`ve never reported so many!!
If these guys don`t like the system then why don`t they write to their MP/Gordon Brown etc etc
What part of the word `support` do they not get????0 -
In fact...just to reiterate what this board is about ....
Dear MoneySavers....
This is a difficult board - many think bankruptcy too easy - and I dare say in some cases it is. Yet others have been through hell, seen family and home torn apart, and its a welcome and deserved release.
I didn't set up MSE to be personally judgemental, but to help people whatever their circumstances. If you have problems with the Bankruptcy laws then the 'Discussion Time' forum is the appropriate place.
This is to help people who are bankrupt rehabilitate their finances - and I personally wish them all the best - whatever their circumstances.
Many people who have gone bankrupt, have had serious debts, have hidden them for a time, been scared to confront them, suffered depression or have even had suicidal thoughts because of them.
So may I caution MoneySavers to err on the side of kindness. The fact bankrupts are here means they're looking for help, guidance and to take charge of their finances - and that in itself is admirable
Please use your knowledge and kindness to help rather than to berate.
If you feel it’s important to point something out that the poster may find negative but needs to understand, then it's not a problem, but do think carefully about your phrasing - people can be very sensitive and nuances may mislead when it’s in an online Forum.

Thank you SSA, I don't know why people feel the need to make such comments when really they do not always understand why people go BR - they just make the assumption that we are too lazy to work and pay our debts which is not the case, most of us after BR work all we can just to still have the necesseties of life! And it is hard enough to keep going without having people coming on and telling you you are an idiot and that you deserve to lose your home etc etcBSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0
