Can anyone point me in the direction of an example "troll" post ... just to get an idea of who/what?

    Cheers...

they usually get deleted quite quickly mr E so they are not on here long enough, but you get some crackers! (or crackpots! ) who like to poke fun at peoples situations or just criticise their expenditure or the amount of debts or just be generally nasty. they just like to try stir up trouble.

Without mentioning names/posts, I saw what I assumed was a very "underhand" post yesterday. The person that sent the post looked to be a long term member of the forum. Given that I'm a newby to the forum, I sat back and waited to see what peoples responses would be. The person it was directed at took it in his stead .. good for them.

I had a look at the "underhand" posters previous posts and got the impression that they were somewhat "arrogant", he made mention of ignoring/dissing any posts from "newbies" ...

If I encountered a similar post, what is the etiquette on the forum ... what should one do?

If you thinka post is really out of order, then ignore it but click the little red triangel in the lower left corner of the post. That pulls up a e-mail messge to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

DFWers and the other forums here are known elsewhere on MSE as huggies or huggers and I am afraid a number of OPs, particularly those on other forum, are frank/vitriolic in their comments to newbies or those in a mess.

The best thing for the newbie is to get off line for a while until a post is pulled from the thread. You can support them by Pm if necessary.
