Is the aerial plugged in? are you using the main aerial on top of your house or one of the little plug in ones?0

Your arial may be too old to receive digital.0

i'm using the main aeriel on the roof which works fine when plugged straight into the tv. if my aeriel is too old, i dont know how old it is, then what can i do ?0

Get a new one. You need a wideband antenna. A lot of the old ones are narrow band and only receive the lower frequency channels which is a sod if the freeview ones are on any channel above 50.0

Buy a new arial
Do you have any other freeview box or tv with freeview in so you can test if its the box or the arial?0 -
As Conor says it's the type that's important. Age isn't really directly related, our 30 plus year old aerial works perfectly fine."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

One other thing to check first: Are you sure that your aerial is pointed at the main transmitter for your area? If it's pointed at a repeater then you will probably see no Freeview signal, as most still only transmit analogue TV.
You can often tell by looking at whether the side vanes on the aerial are side-to-side or vertical. If the latter then you're ~probably~ pointing at a repeater, though this is not (unfortunately) always the case.0 -
If you can Try the new box with a known good aerial i.e. neighbour/relative if it works you probably will need to get your aerial checked0
