Thanks for the advise everyone. I know I'm a chicken but I've taken all I can of people telling me I owe them money. I know I do. So I'd rather communicate by letter. I'll satisfy your curiosity when I get a response.

Well I had a response from Orange and it didn't explain the bundle at all. The letter also stated that they have now taken me off the free tarriff and put me back on Dolphin35. Great. My debt to them just went up by £35 in the blink of an eye. :(

call collections - they will be able to explain what the charge was and why you are now being charged even though you thought that you on a free of charge arrangement. They may not be able to change the situation but I believe that understanding can help what you need to do. It maybe that the arrangment has cancel accidently (it does happen occasionally)and unless you ask you will not get it solved

orange do a free trial of the evening and weekend bundle for 2 months for each new customer or even if you change talkplans etc, its very annoying,
    its automatic
basically its free for 2 months then after that its charged at £5pm unless u opt out. they send you a text you text back if you dont want it, if you dont text back it starts charging you, explain to them you never got the opt out text because you were disconnected so they need to cancel these £5 bills.

Ah, interesting. That could explain it. I'll contact them and try find out.

    Thanks

  • I can confirm what reehsetin says about the "Chargeable Unlimited" bundle.

My partner changed to Orange last year, before we met, and this mysterious item appeared on her bills. After two months of 0.00 charging, it changed to £4.26 (which is £5 after VAT is added), and has been there ever since - over a year. This was never mentioned to her when she took out the contract, and we only removed it earlier this week after finding out what it was.

I changed to Orange (from O2) earlier this week. At no time, anywhere, was this bundle mentioned to me until, during a phone call with Orange this evening to ask about what I really got with Dolphin 35, the woman on the other end of the phone started talking about "7pm-7am weekdays and weekend usage free.." - I interrupted her and asked her what she was talking about and she talked about a "bundle". I was still unclear until I asked her what this bundle was called and she said "Chargeable unlimited..." and then the penny dropped...

It had been added to my calling plan too (Dolphin 35) without anybody mentioning it!

Although she said it was free for two months I told her to remove it there and then, and that I didn't even want it to appear on my first bill. OK, so I'm denying myself the undoubted pleasure of being able to surf the Net from my phone, and I am staying firmly in the dark ages of text messaging and phone calls, but at least I know what I'm getting for my money (I hope), and will not be duped by this £60-a-year charge that has been levied from far too many unsuspecting Orange customers.

I have to say, as long as you talk to Orange they are usually pretty decent in the collections team, its when you dont tell them whats happening they get stroppy and cut people off. As for the bundles, its the fault of whoever you bought it off for not explaining it to you, I believe they are in the brochures but if the sales person didnt explain its chargeable after 2months the fault lies with him/her

The mysterious charges weren't made after just 2 months. In fact Orange deny that they are bundles at all. They say that the charge is for a partial month when I was put back on the dolphin plan, I don't get how I can have partial charges for a couple of months though. Not gonna argue anymore, way too confusing.

Oh, and I'd just like to add that the collections team have been made fully aware of my circumstances by letter and telephone. It just seems that what they say will happen on the phone and what actually happens are 2 completely different things.

Not bothered now though. I've got a PAYG sim instead which I have been using for the last couple of months. I've propsed a payment plan to pay of the rest of the contract. I know it's not ideal but I'm never going to get reconnected with the amount I can afford to pay. :(

Well, I received a phone call and a letter from dlc saying that my debt had been passed to them. I wasn't to bothered as I figured I could include it in my DMP but since that I aheva received a statement from Orange. It looks as though I'm back on the free tarriff and the bill is just for the arrears. It's also for less than they stateed in a previous letter. I think it's a case of the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
