Changing the tariff on my orange contract

Hi,

I have a debt of £88 with orange. My contract is for £35 a month which I started in about September. As I have this debt they cut me off although I could still receive in coming calls. As of today though it appears as though I have been disconnected completely. I called them yesterday and he said that they are not currently charging me line rental which means I will have paid off my debt in the next 2 months. When the debt is clear will they be able to reconnect me at a lower tarriff. Does anyone have any experience with this.

Thanks

When the debt is cleared, you'll get reconnected at the same talkplan you were on before.

From there, standard rules apply. If you're on a pay monthly Animal plan (Dolphin, Canary, Racoon, or Panther), you'll need to be halfway through your contract (so in the 10th month of an 18 month contract for example) to downgrade your plan.

You can downgrade by one plan in the second half of your contract only, so from the £35 one to a £30 one.

£88 wasnt on one bill. It had built up to £122.88 as I hadn't been paying my bill every month due to financial difficulties. I have got it down to £88. Looking at my bills, I have been spending £40 - £50 a month.

You should consider your useage. Either limit yourself to what you get for £30... or if you find yourself going over the allocation, look at a £40-5 tariff. Yes it's a step-up, but you will atleast stay within your limits.

It's generally better to be on a £40-5 tairff and spend only £40-5 than be on a £35tariff and spend £50-60.

Having said that, you are on what's known as a 'free' tariff at the moment (no line rental etc. but also no ability to use the phone)

Once you have settled the debt, you will be placed back on your old tariff and you will also be charged for the number of months of your tariff which you have not yet paid for.

also note that it sounds like you're close to having the debt passed to a debt collector.

If you are worried about your situation, call Orange and discuss with them - you can post here also. Although some of the above info may seem a little scary - it's just meant to advise you of the situation. Plenty of people are here to offer some friendly advice.

    Proplusplus,

Thanks for your advise. The advisor I spoke to said that once I have paid the debt off (which will be by 27th July) to give them a ring and they will reconnect me. I was hoping they will reconnect me at a lower tarriff as I have got used to not using my mobile (as I have been cut off for so long) and now text off the pc or email them.

Well I received a bill from Orange yesterday. They have added £11.05 worth of charges on there for calls. How can that be? I've been cut off for what seems like forever and been unable to call or text anyone. I've written to them and hopefully they will take them off. Paid off a bit today. With the new charges I now owe £63.93 so getting there slowly. As long as they don't add on any other charges.

They could be a) late rated calls (roaming or other). b) standard calls - remember that calls are billed in arrears (eg. you pay line rental at beginning of month, and, once they have calculated how much you spend on the calls, your calls at the end of the month.... both appear in one bill.)

Ask them about Best Plan. - it's a tool which asses your 6-monthly useage and recommends a plan. It may not be applicable for you as you've been on a free tariff, but the Best Plan (remember it recommends a tariff based on your useage) is able to contravene migration policies.

Other than that, it'll be a discussion between you and the operator and the relative rules within Orange as to whether or not you will be given a lower tariff.

I'm not bothered about a lower tarriff currently. I just don't understand how I have incurred charges when my phone has been barred for ages.

Why don't you look at your bill, or if you don't have itemised billing (I'm not sure if Orange do free itemisation online) then phone them up and ask.
