Tesco do a basic stick blender for under a fiver, I have used them since they appeared about the same time as my son in 1985, they are great for Baby food...
I had a Braun one which eventually packed up a couple of years ago, then I bought a Tesco one and melted it in soup that was a tad too hot lol.0 -
You all have such good names. I was almost swayed by TM's Belinda Blenda. Yeh I know good init:D But I've decided on Glenda Blenda I know it sounds a bit like Genda Benda but she'll just have to learn to live with it.;)Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Mine was less than £20 and has all those attachment bits to do the chopping as well as blending!!!
but it was recommended by various famous chefs, has a warranty for my lifetime and is fab.........
yes, i was robbed...should have seen my face when i saw my bank statement the next month.
it does, however, match my kitchen.0 -
sooz - I have the same one as you - bought it off QVC for about £70, quite a few years ago. Yep - I think we woz robbed, when you look at the cheapy ones they have nowadays. But don't we have a posh Italian one ?
(Can't remember the name)
Never made the peanut butter - in fact never used the grinder attachment bits - just the 3 blades.
However, it is all metal so I can blitz boiling hot soups without fear of meltdown0 -
Sorry, another stupid question....
Tonight I'm going to take my stick blender out of its box and use it for the first time.
It's a Tesco Value one, so doesn't come with a bowl thing (or whatever it's called).
How do I use it so that whatever I'm blending (onions in tonight's case) doesn't go up the walls, on the ceiling, over the cat (if I had one!) etc.?
Thank you!0 -
Not a stupid question as I found out the first time I used mine!!! Make sure that your stick blender is pretty much under whatever it is you are blending, it is being above the stuff that makes it go every where!!!!! And kind of wiggle it around!! I find an old plastic measuring jug to be ideal. WOuld be itnerested to hear what you make of your blender tomorrow as my current one has just died and needs replaced. Last one was the £4.99 cookworks from Argos. It has lasted for 2 1/2 years including blending all my son's meals when he was weaned and many a soup and breadcrumbs so I think it did OK for the price.Me debt free thanks to MSE :T0

The trick is definately to keep the blades and the little vents under the food you're blending. It's better to use a narrow, tall container rather than a large flat one.
Just run, run and keep on running!0
