I must say, sympathise was probably the wrong word. I love my big boy to bits. He seems way ahead of what an 8-week-old should be like, and is an absolute cracker. It's just the growing out of clothes aspect that's a pain.
Poor Roo, I'm glad my wee sausage doesn't have reflux. He doesn't seem to have a huge appetite either though, but is putting on about 9oz a week.0 -
Cannot believe I am writing about nappies! I started with disposables but soon realised that terries were better (less leaks) and no more problem than a towel wash every couple of days (smug too watching them flap on the line!). However when my childminder had cause to go to casualty with my son twice because he couldn't wee I realised that disposables (used by my carers only) were causing urinary retention in the poor little tot. I think that if I had not continued with terry nappies my son would have ended up with an unnecessary circumcision. Glad to have got that off my chest (He's doing GCSE's next year! but pampers etc were widely advertised in the early '90's). Oh yes, if I remember training pants are a waste of cash, don't bother!0

Has anyone else had the problem of babies being soaked through after a couple of hours using reusable nappies. Only explanation my supplier could give was that my baby was a heavy drinker - seeing as I can't stop baby being thirsty, don't see what else i could do other than use disposables which I really didn't want to.0

Some nappies are more absorbent than others.
Some babies are heavy wetters.
You can try bulking the nappy up with booster pads or just cut up some old towels into strips.
How old is your baby? As I found he wasn't so wet as he got older.

I'm still finding I need to change my 4 month old son every hour in washables, he was in disposables through the night & I was running around like mad trying to keep on top of the nappies through the day so I have switched to disposables for now & am going to try again with the washables when he is about 6 months. Sometimes things just don't work out as you think they will:rolleyes:

Lillibet, which reusables were/are you using? Depending on the type or fold it may be possible to increase their absorbancy. Also just checking that you haven't used fabric conditioner as that can decrease the nappy's ability to soak up the wee. Something as simple as a microfibre cloth can greatly increase absorbancy in most nappies."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -

Terries with a built in extra absorbant layer. I tried using a booster but the poor thing was so bundled up he could hardly move:rotfl:All in ones don't seem to work on him 'cos he has thin legs so they don't fit sungly and leak:pPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

You could use a hemp or microfibre booster which is pretty slimline.
I hate all-in-ones, they are just so bulky and don't really work well at all.
DD is quite a slim little thing and we have found Fuzzi Bunz pocket nappies to be excellent. I like pockets as they dry very quickly and can be boosted very successfully without making the nappy too bulky. There are other pocket nappies, like the minki which have had pretty good press as well as some of the WAHM ones."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -

i found the all in ones soaked through quite quickly but the bambino mio pads didn't. i'm glad i discovered washable fleece liners too - the nappy gets wet but baby doesn't feel wetness on the skin, for some reason the flushable liners just didn't work as well as the fleece ones. you can make your own or buy them - there are lots of people selling hourglass shaped liners on ebay around £3 for ten. mine have a lovely frog pattern :-)52% tight0 -
jellyhead wrote:thanks a lot :-) roo was over 14lbs at his 6 week check too - ooops! every time he gets weighed he jumps a band on the chart, he started off on the 50th centile. i've no idea why he grows so much, he's 10 weeks, he doesn't have any food and he has less milk than the other babies i know. he also has reflux so he vomits and possets some back up, he's just a very large boy lol!
My son was 10lb 4oz born so was a big boy too. All mine have been on the 98th centile for weight/height/head circ. Dont stress too much, oncethe walking starts they'll slim right down.WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0
