Lightbulb moment: Probably 30th December 1999 - the eve of the new millenium, 4 months after getting married, and the day I found out I was pregnant with my son. We were living in a grotty rented flat, absolutely stoney broke and with £17k worth of debt (about £5k was my car loan and rest was hubby's from before I met him). I remember thinking 'we've got responsibilities now, things have got to change'.

Debt at highest: As above, but then when we had paid quite a lot of it back, we borrowed another £5k for a car, so the overall amount we have paid off is around £22k.

Debtfree date: Today! (12th August 2008)

Pearl of wisdom: There's no easy way out or quick fix - it's about making lifestyle changes that are sustainable over a long period, and keeping going even when there seems to be no end in sight, or when it feels like life is ganging up on you.

And you need good friends to support you through the bad times, and celebrate with you in the good times. That's what I have found here on DFW - you are amazing, thank you xxx
