The live chat was useless, the UK number I called them to be told that they can only deal with Customer Service Enquiries online, they gave me this email address though, (if its useful to anyone else):

ukreception@ebay.com

I have now logged a claim with Her Majesty's Court Service Online, cost me £30.00 for the privelege (which is refundable). I am totally peeeed off now though, ebay are useless when it comes to things like this, it makes me want to stop trading with them!!!!

I have also reported it to the police, short of actually visiting the ebay seller (I have his correct name, address & tel no) I dont know what to do.

Its infuriating, especially since the i-pod was a treat because ive worked so hard at paying off my debt this year.

And the annoying thing is, I usually would pay by paypal, just not this time (and the seller had good feedback, everything seemed legit)

Oh well, such is life.

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

Feedback is often 'Bought' so be very wary of trusting feedback.

I could improve ANYONE's feedback precentage for a small fee!

(Nope, I'm not offering - but I know how it is done)

They can't stop it.

It doesn't contravene their rules.

If you look up items costing 1p you will notice a lot of buyers purchasing useless items for 1p.

The seller then leaves them feedback in return for receiving feed back.

100 feedbacks costing 1p. so if you get a group of 100 people all leaving 100 people feedback.........do the sums and both sellers and buyers build up their reputations and go on to become 'Power Sellers'.

What can Ebay do? And they get their percentage too, don't forget.

I had a dispute over an item not received with ebay and it took FOREVER to sort out - lots of emails back and forth and endless waits for a reply of 4 weeks or more - basically I think they are swamped with such claims so it takes time. I did get my claim paid out........but it took almost 5 months!!!!!!

Wow, Miss London, that's brilliant that you've gone ahead and done this. Will be very interested to see how you get on with this.

It took me about 5 months to get a claim paid via ebay also. I think once I'd sent proof of payment (bank statement entry) I had to wait about another 6 weeks before the payment was made. They didn't send much in the way of updates either...I was quite surprised when the payment landed in my account.

Good luck and I hope you get your money back.
• The one time I got conned, it took 6 months

Even after approving the claim, the payment came form germany and took another 6 weeks

thats very true so its always a good idea not to just go by the feedback % but to look what they have been buying and selling,if its a lot of 1p stuff u should hear warning bells:D.of coarse they could make their feedback private but this also looks a bit dodgy.
