Not according to http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ which shows four London bureaux de change offering a better dollar rate than TEG's rate this morning of 1.525, for example Interchange FX is offering 1.538.

Five are shown as beating TEG's Euro rate of 1.122, with Interchange FX offering 1.131.

I used ICE the other day for £250 worth of Euros.....even with the £3.95 handling fee i got a better rate than LloydsTSB. Even delivered on Saturday without incuring the £1.50 'guarenteed' fee!!

However, looking at my bank statement I've got a Cash Charge of £3.82 directly beneath the ICE transaction - displayed in exactly the same format as it.

spoken to a nice lady at ICE and they claim that is it a charge made by Lloyds. Does anyone know if this is correct as i'm not 100% convinced.

I have used the fairfx card a few times now in the US and Europe and had no problems at all. To be fair I haven't used the other cards but if it ain't broke.....

You presumably paid for your Euros with your LTSB Debit Card?

LTSB, as well as several other banks specifically charge for FX transactions - see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money#qa

that'll will explain it the, cheeky sods, especially when lloyds themselves palmed it off saying its was ICE's fault
  • Hi
Just to let you know of a BAD experience with THE CHANGE GROUP
Ordered £750 worth of dollars on the 18th and paid with my debit card.
Printed off the comfirmation of the order at $1.5107 to the pound which was the highest it has been for a while.
Got a phone call from them the next day saying there has been a problem with the payment and they would have to refund me.
Rang my bank and they said payment has been made to them.
Rang the change group and they said the money would be put back into my account in a couple of hours.
After many phone calls the money has only been transfered today the 23th after being told every time I rang it would be back in my account in a couple of hours.

So not only have I lost out on a good rate on the day ,whilst they have had my cash the rate has gone down even more.

    Never again
  • A reliable bureau de change based in dorset is Exchange 4 cash , they are joined with No 1 currency so offer the same rates but they offer postal service also. I used to use the post office until i was informed of e4c. Great family run business . The buy back is a great rate, but having the backing of No 1 currency helps. There number is 01308 420542
  • Thanks for details oxy, i looked them up on No1 currency website to get the address. Got the best rate possible outside of london :)
