Yes, if you pass the ICE second stage of "security checks", which happen some time after they have debited your card then things are fine...

Otherwise they email you to say 'actually we changed our minds' and the funds are reserved on your card for a week. And they really don't care a jot how inconvenient that is, or even if it stops you ordering anywhere else while the transaction is voided.

It's the fact they check the details after charging you, and the fact they don't give a stuff. But it seems sadly the commission MSE get for referring people to them is enough to override that concern.

Glad it worked out for you though.

Suppose it is a bit of annoying system, but just felt I had to say i'd experienced no problems to give a bit of balance. People tend to post problems more than praise so my guess is there are many happy customers out there.

Annoying, definitely. But also entirely unnecessary - they have no more data after the fact than they do when processing the card, so why not just reject transactions up front before reserving money on peoples cards.

But absolutely right to add balance. I'd guess 99% of their transations just go through without any problem at all.

The true measure of a company though is how they handle things when they don't go smoothly - and these cowboys get a big fat zero from me on that front.
  • Best rates for foreign exchange = Eurochange. They supply marks ansd spencers with their foreign money, so miss out the middle man!!
  • As a current employee of ice, i would recommend always buying currency either from your own bank or abroad, the rates vary drasticly and most places charge commision, then a lower rate
(if you buy online its comision free, but makesure you get it delivered to your address because instore collection you still get branch rates, instead of the internet rates)
In the high street (MnS)at the moment the going rate is 1.2 somethings for the euro, and at the airports a staggering 1.1 and people still buy, why??? Why not take money out of cash machines when your abroad?
Oh and always be careful there are no extras in the price like price protection, unless you know you will bring more then £20 quid back, or thats another £4 for nothing, many of our customers pay £8.50 for just changing currencies!

DONT GET IN THE HOLIDAY MOOD TO SOON!!!
Remember, be nice to members of bank staff, you'll be surprised at how much they will help you! But they dont have the powers to refund everything without sending it up to regional offices for authorisation!:D
  • I recently ordered through TMS in September and got a really good rate of 1.24 at the time which is fantastic:j after checking several other companies. Also we set the delivery and it was delivered on time before 1pm as promised. Will definatly be using them again next year but want to take advantage of the foward rates this time. bit concerned about putting money places at the moment though:confused:

Bucks arrived today from Crown Currency Exchange. Ordered months ago when it was $2 for £1. This is the 2nd year I've used them with no problems at all. Would highly recommend them.

:T Definatly one of the best out there. Went to France in September and got a really decent rate of 1.24 for the 21-30 day delivery period. Delivered on time and without fuss. Top notch. Ordering US Dollars soon aswell being as the rate is plummeting through the floor:eek:
