I can't speak for any of the ones you've listed Dan as I haven't used them.
Last time I needed foreign currency I used my Nationwide debit card in a local ATM. And one time I used Travelex to order and collect some US$.
Can I make a couple of suggestions for exchange rate info though? Oanda and XE are quite good, imo - I use them every time I need exchange rates, and they've got the currency rates for almost every country on the planet in their databases.0 -
I have used Crown Currency Exchange several times and have had no problem at all with them, ordered Euros December 2008 when they were all over the place, and got a guaranteed rate at that time, if the rate fell I would get the guaranteed rate, if it went up more Euro/£ than the guaranteed rate I would get an extra 75% of the difference, unfortunately they are no longer running this, I got in at 1.12/£ and I see today it is 1.07/£ for the same delivery date I requested.
:jWell not exactly, it wasn't so long ago you could 1.50+/£0 -
I was approached by a young lady last week in Doncaster she asked me if i was going on holiday and where i was going so i told her that i was off to tenerife soon, she asked me where i going to buy my foreign currency from and i said i would probably get it from thomas cook when i pick up my tickets. she then said that she was from the money shop and that she will guarantee that they will beat any high street retailer including m&s and the post office... she gave me a card which said FX PRIVLEGE CARD on it she said come in and we will give you a great rate plus we will buy your euros back at the buy rate from the day you bought them for £2.99.......
I have been in to the store today after walking around all the travel agents picking up quotes and they were
Thomas Cook - 1.0717
The Co-operative travel - 1.0675
Eurochange - 1.0710
The Money Shop 1.0790 THIS WAS BEFOR I GOT MY PRIVLEGE RATE OF 1.0816
PLUS IT WAS 0% COMMISION
it may have only been a small increase but the service was great and they have recommended that i take out a titanium holiday cash card as it is it the new form of travellers cheques.
all round the service i recieved from them was 2nd to none and the rate was very competive. i will be going back again, plus they gave me a handy currency conversion card.
I recommend them due to the professional and friendly approach plus they gave me some advice on where to go while i am away.0 -
Thanks to the travel money maixmiser, popped into Thomas Exchange Global's branch on the Strand to get € for trip next week and got €1.10 - fast, friendly & efficient service. Handily there is an abbey national ATM a couple of shops down too if you want to double check it's open / rates before getting cash (the tool was saying €1.095 so got a smidge more
)
Thank you :money:!0 -
Travel Money Services
I placed my order for a thousand dollars before Christmas for delivery in March, and got a great rate on a canceled currency order. The rate was 1.62 when the travelex rate at the time was heading under 1.4.
The delivery was slightly later than the promised 1pm, but that was Royal Mail's fault.
The service was very good and efficient, they replied to emails and phone calls very quickly.
However I wouldn't recommend them if you're nervous about your money - the rate seemed "too good to be true", which made me feel quite uneasy having my money tied up for three months in a company I knew little about. I'm not sure if transactions like this are covered by the Financial Services Compensation scheme if the worst case happens. All my views are my monkey's views. I give advice on behalf of my pet monkey and do I give banana related advice. All my posts are my monkey's opinion and no-one else's.0 -
Is anyone worried about ordering from Crown currency in the current climate??
I am thinking of ordering dollars as it is quiet high?Loves Vegas shopping and beauty products!0 -
Was also thinking of using them for over 30 days price, again a bit nervous in the current climate if not protected0

Hi folks,
We are thinking about adding some new companies into the Travel Money Maximiser tool, and I want to get your feedback on whether you've used them, and your experiences. Principally, we're looking for any issues (good or bad!) you had with actual mechanics of ordering the money and getting it delivered/collecting it - the rates should speak for themselves if the providers get into the TMM.
The companies we'd like to focus on are
Travel Money Services http://www.travelmoneyservices.co.uk/content/euros.asp
Crown Currency Exchange http://www.crowncurrencyexchange.com/
Fair Fx https://fairfx.com/
Interchange FX https://www.interchangefx.co.uk/pages/51/currency_exchange_/travel_and_cash_money
No1currency http://www.no1currency.co.uk/
Cheers
Dan
FYI, Travel Money Services and Crown Currency Exchange are the same company.0 -
Just used Crown Currency Exchange to order Australian Dollars. Great rate, free Special Delivery on the day requested, good mixture of notes (totalling the correct amount of course!). Highly recommended, will definitely use them again.0

Used FairFx card around the world. Brilliant rates, does just what it says on the tin.0
