i tried a cage for my 9 week old pup, he hated it, i left it open 4 him to go in on his own, no joy, tried putting treats inside and he hates it, put him in and jumps out. put him in and shut the door and he cried for hrs, tried this 2 nights. i guess some dogs just do not like them.. so when im out he has the kitchen and hallway, with the front room door shut and stairs stairgated.
We introduced our pup to his cage the same day he came to his new home. We bought is 'mothers' blanket in there and did not close the door. After a couple of hours we started closing the door slightly and at first he circled in a very distressed fashion. Thankfully this only happened once and after 2 weeks of crying at night he is now great! He even goes in there under his own will to sleep!0 -
it took 2 weeks of crying...jesus, didnt the neighbours go mad lol??0

As for this cage, try taking it back and see what they say - I am not sure if you can buy extra strong cages but they might be heavy.
Luckily the whole cage is made of metal bars including under the tray so he shouldn't get out. I'm just worried that he might hurt himself especially now he's broke the joining weld.0 -
Our two have managed to brake there huge 42 inch cage ! we have a doberman and rottweiller both under 1 we have had to use cable ties to keep it together as they managed to pull the ends in then they have managed to brake the door so we have to use the ties to keep them in (they can be VERY distructive and have even chewed my bedside table and don't even think of leaving anything leather in the reach) we are planning on buying a new cage but was wondering if anyone could recomend a good brand for my insane dogs ?0

I can totally recommend the Croft crates - www.croftonline.co.uk - I have bought many different sizes from them over the years and they are all still going strong (some 30 years old). I have also bought from other manufacturers only to find they fall apart; catches break; hinges come off, after a few years . Croft are not the cheapest (nor the most expensive judging by what Pets at Home, etc charge ) but they are definately an investment. I have a really heavy duty crate from their Showman range which may suit you - but give them a ring, they are really helpful. And No! I don't work for them - I'm just a satisfied customer.

It worked Thanks ! have to measure up the space we have and see what the biggest cage we can fit there from that range is

I use a crate for both my dogs and find that it's a good idea to cover them if they're nervous or uncomfortable in them.
Simply use an old blanket and drape it over the crate. This creates a den where the dog can feel secure and in his/her own space0 -

We have the crate under the stairs so it is quite den like anyway, with our two I think its more about liking to sleep with us in our room as they don't seam upset I will defenitly try it anything is worth a try !0 -
My cage is a Rosewood brand and is excellent quality. I've had it many years and it's used every night and stored during the day so gets plenty of usage!0
