I am with ebico so it is really easy to work out my actual bill. One whole month to go for this quarter and already I owe £83. My ch only came on 6 days ago and the i measure graph went vertical this monday. Electricity also went vertical as I had to buy and use an electric heater due to a ch leak, now fixed. Gas costs are going to go up in leaps and bounds now and I calculate about £2.5 a day, at least and that isn`t counting the very cold snaps ahead of us
Oh well at least I know how much to put aside now. My bills are the most fingered items in my file!!!0 -
Before anyone says it, I know I can be a geek with information I keep......
Assuming all gas providers use the same calorific values, my bill dated 5/10/2007 shows, 40.4, bill dates 11/12/2007 shows 40.1, bill dated 4/2/2008 shows 40.0, and my latest bill which is dated 20/10/2008 is back at 40.1 -- so not much difference to 12 months ago.
The lowest figure I have (5/10/2007 being the oldest one I've managed to retrive this info for) was 39.9 on the bill dated 2/5/2008 (and the highest is the 40.4 on the 5/10/2007 bill) -- so my gut reaction is that this doesn't change/hasn't changed sufficiently enough to make a huge difference to anyone's kWh calculations
No I don't think so between the highest and lowest CV it would make a difference of between 1% and 2% based on the values I've got - between 39.6 and 40.3.0 -
which power companies are you with? I am with ebico and am dithering re changing as I am sure I will save money but who to is the question0

I'm with Scottish Power (dual fuel and online account discounts), and have been since May 2002.
Played with the comparison sites at the end of June, and they were still coming in the cheapest for our useage
ETA: Also fixed price until September 2009Cheryl0 -
I'm with Eon, dual fuel, prices capped till Nov 2009
Just been playing with figures comparing last week (first week of a new billing period) with the average from my bill for the quarter Oct 07 - Jan 08
electricity average daily usage
last year 13.28kWh per day
last week 10.57kWh per day
gas average daily usage
last year 93.67 kWh per day
last week 49.28 kWh per day (for not much heating, mainly just living room for 3 hours in the evening)
But last week was only the first week we had heating on this winter, and of course it will get much colder. Unfortunately I only started recording regular readings in April, so don't know how we compare for the exact same time last year.

Northern Ireland Electric (unfortunately we in NI have no other choices, it's a monopoly) paying 16.88p per kwh...
Gas is also a monopoly with Phoenix gas - paying 7.96p per KWH for the first 2000kwh then 5.223p for the rest.0 -

I bet you get fed up with all the whinging you see on here about suppliers when actually all we have to do is put our money where our mouth is and find a different supplier!0 -

I am a bit envious but I guess it saves me the trouble of having to sit down and work through all the options. Does feel b**y expensive though, especially since we are also going through a period where our rates are rising hugely as well, supposedly to bring us in line with rest of UK...and water rates are due to come in in the next few years as well...
I really do feel for people who have no slack in their budgets, for me it means cutting back, but there's enough there to cut. But for people with very little fat in their budgets it must be a nightmare!0 -
I bit the bullet and changed my electricity suppier from ebico to BG click6. I worked out that I will pay at least £69 less a year. I hate the fact that you can`t just get a supplier and stick with them. They are all sneaky re putting prices up0

Hi Kittie:hello:
We buy our energy from BG. We have a dual fuel, paperless, DD rate which I fixed in 2005 until 2010. I don't know what I will do in 2010 - if the economy has picked up I will probably cap again. We got this rate because in 2005 BG were losing so many customers they were getting desperate, so it was a stroke of luck;).0
