I am just about to join Imeasure. We had a horribly high utility bill before Xmas which meant i purchased a currentcost meter so we could monitor our usage (which I did know was a bit high).

I've cut our useage by 40% according to our Eon readings which I am pleased about.

However, I don't think our useage will be as low as many posters on here. I have a four year old who has accidents and I still use our condenser dryer. However both washer and dryer are low energy/water use and recent purchases (A rated) so we'll see how embarrassed I am lol. All bulbs are energy saving, TV is LCD and on while kids are around but not left on standby. I tend to allow either lights, TV or PC's to be on during the night/evening in the lounge once kids have gone to bed altho our useage is upped by having the pc's on fairly constantly. I've even bought a kettle that only boils the water u need (a breville one cup variable) so hopefully that helps a little.
  • hi deannatrois and welcome

The name of the club is 'MoneySaving Carbon Club'.

Be warned it is very addictive. The badges folk talk about don't appear until end of week 4.

I'm not sure how many do so but some use a spreadsheet to complement the imeasure charts and especially for more accurate costing.

    All the best.

    Hi deannatrois

Hope you don't mind me adding my little bit. I have put a few nuggets of advice on this thread before about saving energy which, hopefully, readers have found useful.

Firstly, really well done on cutting your energy usage by 40 per cent. This is some achievement. :j

To see if there are any other measures you can take to reduce it even more, I would have a chat with our Energy Efficiency team. Tell them about the appliances you use and they will advise of any area you might be able to save further.

Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful tips.

Check out our website, particularly the interactive house. More good tips here.

You might also find the 10:10 campaign of interest. This is climate change campaign aimed at helping people reduce their energy usage by 10 per cent by the end of 2010. Again, details are on our website.

Have you registered with our website? If you have, check out the Energy Tracker. This will give you a graphical picture of how your current usage is going compared with the previous 12 months. Personally, I find this useful when looking at my own situation.

Hope you find this helpful deannatrois. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be glad to help. :)

    Hello all

well the kids have had there first full week back at school and that has seen us with a drop of 24 units (72 for the week)
I was content with 15 units a day so am over the moon at 10ish :)

My tumble dryer has been unplugged and moved as dispite the fitters telling me you don't get much heat out of a modern combi unit the small room its in gets quite warm and drys everthing on the horse in 24hrs, Its great to see the carbon coming down each week,

The plus side/downside i've found with me using the i-measure over the last year is it made me take a deeper look at life as a whole and more determined to become as self sufficient as possible so you cant move for seedlings in the house at the moment

    Have a great week :)

badges for last week are both a 'C' again, but I'm right on the cusp of a C/D against the site average

I was out most of the day Saturday and all Sunday morning, so the washing mountain had to be tackled yesterday afternoon..... and this meant I had to use the dryer for some of the stuff (towels & jeans) as I didn't have room to hang everything inside and it was pouring down for a fair chunk of the day :( I'm desperately hoping that the extra electricity used for this will actually be offset by the fact I was out (so no laptop, lights, TV or radio for 15 hours that I'd normally have a combination of these turned on for)

  • Good morning all!!

Monday again and I must say I'm rather pleased with the lowest gas and electric readings for the year so far.

Gas is down to 325 kwh and electric 35 kwh:j:j

I have been switching off the heating during the day now, and had it on 17/18 some nights...no-one noticed:rotfl::rotfl:lets hope the downward trend continues. I've never been more excited by utility bills in my life:p Have treated myself by purchasing a Wii Fit board:eek:

Had my lowest week of the year so far too. Dropped 15% on last week.

Overall this last month is 14% down on previous.

I envy you Thrifty girl, I set my heating to switch to evening an hour later than it had been (it's set at 17 during day but very rarely kicks in, then 21 for a few hours on night) and hubby complained he was cold and went off for a fleece. I was fine though so don't know what was up with him! :rotfl:

Not looking forward to readings in May as going to be doing a major amount of cooking for my sister in laws wedding on the 15th. Must try very hard not to begrudge what it does to my figures/targets!

Well done on the decrease Jenny. Don't worry, cooking does use that much gas, nothing compared to heating. I do a lot of cooking myself and its the heating that majes the real difference.
