  • Just calculated my annual consumption for gas and electricity.

    Gas = 8,000 kWh :j
    Elec = 1,500 kWh :j

    Wow ffl - that is excellent :T :T :T

    I have just finished my first week and based on my readings, am pleased to report both our gas and electric usage is down :j:j

    Electric - this is averaging at 9kWh per day compared to 15kWh this time last week.

    Gas - this is averaging 37kWh per day compared to 52kWh this time last week.

    On these readings I will not need to increase our dds :beer:

    Next targets are to reduce the electric to 7kWh / day and gas to 29kWh /day - if I manage this I will start to save money:money:

    Thanks again to setmefree and everyone's excellent advice on this thread :T

    Happy.gif I made it to a 'D' rating this week! Carbon club 17/55

    Well done to everyone who keeps their electricity so low, it's almost impossible, in our situation, to get as low as many here. Last week, however, I turned the 3 storage heaters down another notch to reduce the carbon score. It means burning more logs, but I've no intentions of freezing and don't expect anyone else to be either. :D

    In January, I spent £135.20 on 1773 kWh averaging £4.36 per day (57 units)
    In February, I spent £104.56 on 1343 kWh averaging £3.73 per day (48 units)
    In March, I'll try to reduce the spend to under £100 and aim for 40 kWh/day max to allow for another temperature plunge.
    I reserve the right not to spend.
    The less I spend, the more I can afford.

    Okay well I'm a D again and 54/55 but I have reduced my gas use significantly although my electric use is still higher than I would like - 85kwh last week despite the fact that I did my washing in cold water. I think two things may be at play here - firstly that DH puts the dishwasher on when it's not even half full and second that he's watching more telly (he's just finished a big project and taking his time getting back into a work routine). Gas is down to 533kwh from 592kwh last week, probably thanks to reducing the timer settings. Although if it's as cold this week as they're saying it might have to go back up again. It does feel significantly colder here today anyway :)

    Well done to all you successful energy savers.

    belfastgirl23, I think one of the most important things is to get the whole household on board. I am sure our electricity use came down when our DD got the message. Instead of me reminding her to turn lights off etc she started reminding me.

    Last week you spent:

    £1.16 on gas - 33kwh
    £2.40 on electricity - 20kwh

    Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (15 weeks ago):
    £35.67 on gas
    £39.12 on electricity

    A carbon rating, 2/55 in the carbon club.
  • Still on a 'C' at the moment (I was a 'B' earlier on - pants!:)) and ranking 47/55 not sure about that as I've only used £3.72 electricity according to imeasure values. Numbers are heading south anyway.

    Energy use is 3,275 kWh (Gas: 2,349kWh | Electricity: 926kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 968 Kg CO2 (Gas: 484 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 484 Kg CO2)

    Last week you spent:

    * £0.00 on gas
    * £3.72 on electricity

    Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (31 weeks ago):

    * £82.20 on gas
    * £111.12 on electricity

    Carbon emissions Kg CO2

  • I missed a trick on my previous post: I used Dec 2007 to Jan 2009 based on the bills. As last years bill was for only 2 months to Feb 22 I can use the end date and imeasure values:

    Just calculated my annual consumption for gas and electricity.

    Gas = 5370 kWh :j:j not 8,000
    Elec = 1530 kWh not 1500 not to worry :)

    This compares with (a bit out of synch for a rolling average but i can't be bothered going through those bills so I'll use this as a baseline)...
    Gas = 13,000 kWh :eek:
    Elec = 2,300 kWh :eek:

    ...for the previous year.

    Gas = (5370 / 13,000) * 100 = 41% (or 59% reduction) :j:j:j
    Elec = (1530 / 2300) * 100 = 67% (or 33% reduction)

    I thought the previous post didn't add up because I'd reported in September that gas was 8,500 for the year so to be on 8,000 after a winter of scrimping was suspect...anyway I'm even happier now.:D:D:D:beer:
