I am one of the happy ones too as our gas usage is now half that during the cold spell.

thumb_smiley-signs107.gif well done on that :T

Gas is down by 15% on last week - down to where I was for Christmas week. Electricty is down by a mere 5%,

    bravo0001.gif Down is good :T
  • Got my estimated bill through from Ecotricity this week - despite the nice man coming to take a meter reading (sigh). £160 estimated bill based upon 12 units per day average, 1200 units in quarter. Quick trip to the cupboard armed with torch, notepad and pen...actual usage for the period was 800 units, approximately 75% of their estimated target.

Apparently, when querying them, the computer system had made a mistake and they might be able to sort it out later.

I (politely) informed the very nice girl over the phone that I would only be paying what I had actually used over the period.

So...despite the cold weather, the lack of any drying place for my washing (so the tumble goes on every day) and my love of gadgets, by turning things off after use and getting energy saving bulbs for free wherever possible, still managed to reduce electricity usage by a quarter on the previous year!

BUT...the gas bill isn't in yet.....wonder if the nights spent hidden under the covers whilst the thermometer registered minus 3 in my bedroom have made a blind bit of difference to that one...
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll :D
  • I revised my boiler settings yesterday, took out half of the morning heating and cut back by 15 mins on the evening one. Didn't even notice today (and nor did DH more to the point!). Hoping this will make a difference this week ahead of the supposedly forecast snow  for next week...

    and well done jojo!!
  • Great stuff Jojo :T

Still on a very steep learning curve  Am in absolute awe of many on this thread - respect :T

Still taking my own daily readings:

Electric 9kWh - so am really pleased :D. Although our average over last year was 12kWh - our average over last quarter had crept up to 14-15kWh - so am dead chuffed - this has been achieved by:

    energy saving bulbs
switching everything off when not in use
washing / drying dishes by hand
    drying using airers
using a flask - so not boiling kettle so often
thinking twice before using an electrical appliance

So - I'm on 9kWh / day - next target is to reduce to 7kWh / day. I've decided that any savings are going straight onto monthly overpayments on the mortgage - so it's a real incentive :money:

Gas - not doing so well - 36kWh  Mr TSL has snuck the ch on twice behind my back  - well I've just snuck it back off again :rotfl:I'm obviously made of hardier stuff :rotfl::rotfl:

Hope everyone has had a good day - take care all.

When I initially cut back on the heating, I could tell when it went off - and DS complained it got cold (but didn't/doesn't know how to over-ride the time ;) )

So I put it on for longer, but at a slightly lower temperature -- and that seems to have fixed the 'problem' on all but the coldest of days..... (now regularly set to 16 degrees instead of 18)

The wind in Greater Manchester was pretty cool yesterday - and it certainly has a 'bite' to it today..... did one of my quickest school drop-offs ever (it's only a couple of minutes walk each way), and my hands are pretty icy !!!
