That should be OK - remember you'll have to give it a darn good heat through on the day - as much as three hours in the pot, so that'll finish it off nicelyHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. probably too late to mention this now but you can also do Christmas puds in a pressure cooker and I prefer the colour and texture - it's less dark and treacly. If you've got one, it's well worth using a pressure cooker for reheating on Christamas day - only takes half an hour or so which is ideal as you can put it on to reheat when you serve up the main meal and it stops the kitchen getting quite so steamyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I'd agree with that - if your pudding basin fits in! I had one that did and one that didn't this year as I made the whole Delia mix and have ended up with one large and one huge. I usually steam them in the pressure cooker on Christmas Day as well. I have now stored them in the understairs cupboard as GIRLPOWER suggested.0

You can also cook Christmas pud in the oven, in a baking tray with water on a low heat overnight. That's how my MIL does hers.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
MIL today mentioned that she might try cooking her christmas pud in the slow cooker as an alternative to steaming it on the hob (pud is shop bought). Has anyone ever tried this? I do normally microwave my christmas pud, but I do think it tastes better when steamed on the hob, so if it works out for her (she's doing a pre-christmas dinner for some friends tomorrow), then I might give it a go. :xmassmile

Thanks bossyboots!
Is that a shop bought pud? How long do you cook it for and do you put water around it?

I make my own pud but it works equally well with shop bought.
You put it in a pudding bowl (some shop bought ones come in a bowl) and put it in the cooker. You then need to pour water about 2/3 of the way up the bowl. I cook it for about 6 hours on high.0 -
I've been given a homemade Xmas pud form hubby's nan...she apparently steamed it for 8 hours when she made it, but has told me that i will need to steam it for a couple of hours on the day.....i would think it was thoroughly cooked!
would I be able to do this in the slow cooker too? and if so how long for?
Thanks0
