Hi FMN, I've just read through your thread and firstly I must say Well Done on facing your debt. It really is a big step to recognise your debt and deal with it!
I can't really offer any new advice other than what great advice has already been given. I suppose what I can say is that, if needed, tell the children what is happening. If they are used to the latest games consoles, treats or holidays, it could come as a shock if this was to stop! I'm taking this from the actor Gary Webster who was on BBC Breakfast and went bankrupt. He used to treat his kids to Disneyworld and then of course couldn't, so the family enjoyed camping holidays instead, which the kids appreciated possibly even more!
But good luck, keep us posted as to what is happening and of course if you have any questions there will be someone on here to help you - you are DEFINITELY in the right place! QBxOfficial DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My DebtsDFW Long Hauler #109

Hi FMN - thats good news on the Virgin Front. Hopefully that will reduce the minimum payments by £249 - here's hoping.
Please don't try borrowing any more money - even in the short term, until you know what your choices are and have a plan on how to make it happen. It's very tempting to get started on taking action, but we needto make sure it's not a kneejerk reaction. You've already made a start by sorting out the virgin card. Just take it one step at a time and you'll soon get through the list of things to do.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Thank you QB - our younger children (9,7 and 4) are getting wind of it, as I've said that from now on I'm going to make their lunches rather than pay for school ones (£30 a week), but they're happy about that, or they will be when I have some money to replenish the rather mean store cupboard! And I can't buy them sweets after school like I have been... Our oldest is in France with her school (she's 13), so I was planning to talk to them this weekend when she's back.
