Desperate, am I in the wrong place?

  • Thank you urg and lucielle, I do need to get organised again. We have done a lot in a year but I need to remind myself to hold on to all the good habits and not allow the old ones to creep back. I suppose I can be good at fundraising because it's not OUR money, and it's for a cause we believe in. I believe in our family though too, I should look at it like that. The way I grew up though, money was just not discussed - very unhealthy - and I don't want my children to be afraid of it like I am. Thank you for posting and helping me get back on the straight and narrow!

    lucielle, any job news?

Hi FMN, i'm sneezing my head off, but other than that muddling along okay.

Glad to see you back. I did wonder if you had taken your eye off the road with regards the debts. Can't get too complacent with those little blighters - they have a habit of coming back and biting you when you don't expect it.

It might be an idea to get back to basics and keep a spending diary. After a few weeks, you should be able to see where things may have slipped or where you can tighten up the spending. Possibly worth doing a new SOA to see where you are now and get a bearing on where you were and where you need to be to get everything under control.

Are the kids still DFW, or will you need to give them a nudge too?
Is hubby going to be on sardine sandwiches for lunch? Might be worth warning him that things are going to get shaken up before doing that.

Lucielle - great news on the job. Well done.

    Great news lucielle :j

Hope your hayfever is better George. Yes, I need to go back to keeping a spending diary because that helps so much. It is amazing how cash just dribbles away when you stop accounting for it. I have this week though, wait for it... made some money!! I was a poll clerk on Thursday (£173) and about getting paid more than twice that for something else which I'm proud of, but nervous about confessing to as it relates to my book. Really, really pleased though. :o

  • Hello Supersleuth, George and everyone

Thank you so much for supporting me, even though I haven't posted much lately. This is partly embarrassment as I feel we have been very lucky - f in law has given us a little money - not a huge amount, but at least some we can have to use in an emergency. I know it's probably silly to be embarrassed.. :o Also I have actually earned some money too... about £900 in the past month :D (being a poll clerk and for a couple of articles I wrote) - and we've decided to use a some of it on a holiday that we all need. Again, embarrassment on this board... should we be doing that, rather than rushing to pay off more of our debt? As I said, it's been a tough old year one way and another and my husband particularly has pushed for us to go away. It's only a few days staying with friends and family in France then a week's camping, but still I think it will be good, and we will keep spending to a minimum.. :o

George, I hope all is ok with you?

Supersleuth - I hope you find inspiration here.

Repaying debt doesn't mean you should put your life on hold. Everyone needs a break from it at some point.

No need to be embarassed either. It's your money and you can do what you want with it. You are making payments as agreed with your creditors so you're not doing anything wrong. It should be good for the kids too to see their parents relax a bit.

I'm doing okay. Only problem i have right now is that my home PC is fried. I bought a new power supply incase that was the problem, but it looks like the old one has fried the motherboard. I'm going to try to get a new motherboard and make my own with parts i already have, but flying blind right now. I's awful not having access to a computer at home.

Glad to see you're still about and on the debtbusting mission. There's no point in focussing on only the debt. You need time for yourselves too and if this costs money then so be it.

Have all your creditors stopped interest?
Are you able to put anything aside each month so you can make reduced full and final settlement offers?
