Have just read some reviews and people seem very positive about them. I'm tempted because we don't have a microwave and think it might be useful (and moneysaving) for those times when someone comes in late and needs something heated up or when it's not worth putting the oven on for a couple of baked potatoes, a single pizza etc.

I wonder if our Woolworths will have one ...

Quick look on their website, nothing available. Since having the Infra Red cooker have used regular oven only when batch cooking bread. Had excellent result in IR with roasts, per previous posts. Also grills have been really good. SiL has done whole meals, where she added vegetables to roast, but she (for her reasons) does not vie roasts standing time. I find standing time excellent timing for roast veges. IR does work with frozen deep pies, but fine for pies with topping only. As stated I have managed 'Artisan bread' (threads in this section) which is almost contradictory when related to deep pies, but bread in a loaf tin came out exactly the same as bread in gas oven cooked at same time for comparison.
With the NuWave I find it takes up a fair bit of space, and because of the way the cord attaches, you need almost as much space at right hand side of unit for placing the lid/ring when you lift it off unit. My available space does not have area to right, I manage OK, but have to take care the lead does not contact the (now) exposed hot internals of oven. Also there is quite a high lift required of lid which incorporates the IR element, and ring to clear the internals. I suspect the JLM is easier to manage, but also looks like it has a less capacity.

I've been thinking about the Remoska but have read that it trips some electricity supplies. Also, it's nearly £100 and it's a lot to spend when cooking for one. I've been tempted to buy a small mini oven as it's such a waste of energy when you're heating up a little food. Can anyone recommend a mini oven with grill?

  • Have had my JML Halogen Oven for about a month now and it is wonderful, have not used my conventional oven since I've had it. Cooks everything wonderfully. Not having a conventional oven in my new house which is being built at the moment and will only be using the halogen oven plus induction hob and microwave.

I got my JML online from Woolworths. It cost £49.99 for the cooker and under £5 for the delivery. This was just last week and it came within two days. Thanks for all the replies.

Sorry link does not work, but if you google JML at woolworths it opens on the page.

Just noticed it says free delivery now!

Any other JML owners out there? Sorry mods if this is on wrong board, but did a search and it seems only a few people saying they had one and nothing on how they use it and what for.

    Thanks.

We've got one. If it died I'd replace it today, if the microwave died that might be a different matter - we rarely use that anymore.

    The following turn out well and are regulars for us;

    Roast chicken
    Glazed ham
    Quiche
    Pies or pasties
    Glazed pork chops
    Pommes Anna
    Stuffed chicken
    Pizza

It heats up quickly, doesn't take much power and doesn't heat up the kitchen too much which is a huge advantage! One of the major downsides is the size of it, and as someone else pointed out, the fact that you need an equivalent nearby spot to put the hot lid down on.

I found the oven was actually smaller and neater than I expected and as I only have a small kitchen was a bit worried where it would go. We cleared a space next to the cooker on the worktop which providing we keep it clear is easily enough to put HO and a space for the lid. I use a folded up old towel to put the lid on.

  • Have just got the Coopers catalogue which has a halogen oven which sounds very much like the remoska and JML it is £39.99 and £12.99 for an accessory pack which includes perforated steaming tray, grill/frypan tray 10 slice bread toaster rack and a height extension ring. Postage is £4.99. I wonder if this is as good as either the JML or Remoska ?
  • Anybody managed to find a recipe/instruction book? My mum recently bought one from JML but it doesn't have a book whereas apparently if she'd bought one through the Radio Times it would have come with a booklet.
