Used Quidco and the moneysaving guide to bring my insurance down from a renewal quote of £345 down to £245 for more cover with an additional saving of £35 cash-back. quite happy with that and looking forward to next year when I hope to get it even cheaper.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me MoneySave

I just rang home protect to tell them to strategically place their renewal quote in a place devoid of sunlight.. they are totally overrun with calls and cannot get through to their renewal team. I ended up getting through to the general customer service operative and cancelled without any argument or begging or anything.. I think they may have done this on purpose to downsize the company knowing with hiked fees there would be a huge number of people shopping elsewhere!

anyway.. £22 a month is way better than the £249!

  • Hi,

I'm not sure if anyone can help with this, but I'm hoping to take advantage of Age Concern's £30 cashback on contents insurance. My insurance isn't due for renewal until mid-May, but I'm wondering whether if I purchase this today, I'll still get the £30 voucher? Thanks

The best solution would be to give them a quick ring and ask them, I suspect they will agree to do it.

If they do take a note of the person's name and the date and time in case there is a query about it at a later date
  • Really annoyed - GoCompare highlighted Policy Expert's Home Select as a good price, reviewed the details etc, and it's good cover for £190.

Come back to MSE, use the £80 M&S link, and they refuse to quote.

That's just not playing ball - I'd of happily gone up the extra £20 for "Home Plus" if the £80 M&S credit was included :(

Next best is £244, with no chance of cashback :(

Our home insurance is up for renewal soon. We are currently with Churchill and this will be the first time that I've shopped around to find a cheaper deal somewhere else (I know, I should have done it years ago, I'm new to MSE).

Just started a quote via GoCompare and Policy Expert have come back the cheapest - does anyone have any experience with them? I'm a bit reluctant about taking out insurance with someone who I haven't heard of before.

We are in flood risk area so there isn't alot of insurers who are willing to give us a quote.

Hahah.. just got a new quote with them as my other half, and despite identical setup, got a quote for £330 via the MSE link vs the original £190 via go-compare.

    Definatley not playing ball!

Home insurance renewal time, AA wanted ~ £164 to insure for another year. 2 minutes later via Go Compare (going via Topcashback for the extra £2) highlighted a couple companies high on the list.

Going via Topcashback deals with the entries high up, and the cheapest after cashback is LV @ £84, with better cover, and ~ £20 cashback.

Thanks - just got my renewal from Direct Line and it'd gone up to £275:mad: .... been with them several years but thought it was maybe time to do a couple of comparisons - OMG what a surprise I got!

Several quotes well over £100 cheaper  and like for like quote* with LV was £121 :money:

*DL used to include home emergency but have decided we've to pay extra for that this year

Phone DL and they instantly took £70 off the price (which made me even madder - why shouldn't this have been the price of the renewal!)

Result - I've added Home Emergency cover to the LV quote - and I've still saved over £100! :T :money:
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Home renewal from Direct Line £119.98. Cheaper than last year. AA 100.29 plus free 12ths road recovery, hopefully £40 with cashback. This is with B/C cover, accidental damage, personal possessions worldwide. So i may only pay £60 all told, not bad for a few clicks and 5mins work.

Rang DL and said did not want to renew and without asking put renewal down to £108 if i wanted to come back to them. So please everybody don't be loyal to any company. Car insurance due next month, hope that's as fun too.
