Hello. I am new to the boards, have lurked a bit (finally found the courage to post). I have just started a DMP, first payment sent and received. Unfortunately I only got the details for my new bank account today so I was a bit slow in transferring everything from old bank account. My original bank account has been closed and passed on to recovery agents. I rang child benefit and they said my payment for this month has already been sent out for Monday. Does anyone have any idea of whether or not I can get this money? Only realised my bank account was closed when I tried to get my tax credits out this morning and cash machine wouldn't let me. We can't survive the rest of the month without child benefit. Any help/ ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
There are now two possibilities, One is that the account is really closed and any monies going to the bank for that account get sent back to the sender (here's hoping) The other is that the bank account is suspended in some way preventing any money leaving it and the bank will hoover up and swallow any cash that goes in there.
I would suggest that you get on the phone to tax credits and child benefit people immediately and ask them to recall the payments because the account is closed. They may or may not be able to do this but you'll not know untill you ask.
Good luck (and welcome by the way)0 -
I'm now eight months in and I have to say it's been tough. The only plus is that I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I think one of my debts drops off in a couple of months :j . That should make my other creditors happier.
The only one I'm having a problem with is Monument who are still charging me late fees and over limit fees as well as interest which means my balance with them is still going up.
Well chin up chaps & chapesses it does get better.

Hi Dampelk and welcome
I may be wrong about this, but someone advised me the other day, that a bank can't legally touch any benefits that go into your account. Not sure where they got that info from tbh, but does have a sniff of truth about it. Try posting on the main board and see if any of the really clever people can help. If so, you can march into the bank tooled up (verbally obviousy!) and demand your money.0 -
Thank you all for replying. I know I should have sorted things better but I naively thought I would be able to get a new bank account sorted quicker than the month it took. It's not as easy as you would think getting started on the steep climb out of debt.0

Evening all, everything seems to have gone very quiet on my dmp. So far out of 19 (yes 19!) creditors 4 accepted it straight away, Egg defaulted me straight away on loan and credit card (very nice people to deal with though, not at all scary) Empire gave my debt straight to a dca and Marbles refused my payment. No phonecalls for over a week now either (probably because I never updated my phone number when I moved so most can't get in touch with me!)
1st CCCS payment goes to them all on 25th July so hopefully I might hear back from a few more by then, I have a list of all creditors next to me and I like to tick them off if they accept.
I'm feeling very relaxed and that is strange cos I gave up smoking on Tuesday and it's not bothered me yet.
Budgetwise has been really difficult, car broken into (had to pay £50 excess), new car battery £50 and my car tax was due. All of which completely ate our little savings pile up! Mystery shopping money also went into wrong account even though I told them my new details weeks ago (that was another £80, but I suppose it pays a little bit of our debt off) Oh well, it does feel good knowing it didn't go on credit card.
The moral of my ramblings is that no matter how hard you try and cover yourself for every eventuality things still go wrong and there's nothing you can do but hang on and hope things get better!!
Keep going everyone and good luck to all those just starting on the journey.DMP mutual support number 199Debt free in [strike]2025[/strike] 2018 (hopefully a lot sooner!):j Smokefree since 10pm 2/7/08 :jBaby no.3 due 29/04/20110 -
Thanks for that simbalou - very encouraging to read. I am peeved off this month with budgeting. I have two of my daughters birthdays this month and as you can imagine its tricky until they make money out of elastic.
But like you said none of it is on credit so there is a plus side!
Good luck with ticking that list off.0 -
£26k of debt left - about three years to go.

It's funny isn't it how there's always a bit more month left after the money...?
Not having that perceived safety net of credit is my latest worry...our car has recently cost us loads so I'm hoping we've been through the worst of it...and we have managed to get a fair nest egg together that we're not telling anyone about so that we can squirrel it away into a building society account of my wifes which as the DMP is in my name no-one can touch!!!!!
And it's true there's always a plus side - paying in cash today for things that would have just gone on buy now worry later was strangely...gratifying; am I turning into a weirdo? no been that way for years!
baby has backed off again...for those that are interested.
Dampelk - you're right it is hard to get going...but the hardest part is starting which you've done now...DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 201

Hi all
I've been getting loads of calls from one of my creditors (GE Money) - they phone several times a day, when I get in from work the answer phone's flashing loads of messages but when I listen there's no one there. Yesterday I decided to answer their 8:30am call. They were ringing regarding my DH's loan. Explained to them that he wasn't in and could they please stop ringing and make all correspondence in written form. Woman said they couldn't do that and they would continue to call until they had spoken to my DH!!! Tonight they've rung again but this time is was about my cc. Because I wouldn't confirm any security details to the woman she got really stroppy with me! She asked me to confirm my phone number and didn't like it when I told her that she obviously already knows it as she'd just rung it!!! I'm usually quite a mild mannered person (DH might disagree with that!) but this woman really wound me up to the point where I hung up on her.
Does anyone else have this problem and if so, how do you keep calm and not let them stress you out????DMP MUTUAL SUPPORT THREAD MEMBER 220LBM - JUNE 2008DEBT FREE - JULY 2035DMP WITH PAYPLAN0
