Don't worry too much about how long it takes. My phonecall with the CCCS isn't until 15th but everything I've read on here has convinced me it's the right thing to do! I'm preparing token payments to all of my creditors this week - each is getting £1 (which scares me a but but I believe this is the best way! ) That means I'll have a small emergency fund to put in my new account consisting of the money I usually have to scrabble around to pay.('Savings' to go into new account - also the co-op - they were great - all over the phone!)
    Best wishes!

  • HiZoeysmum,

you can use the Post Office for Co-Op accounts, you don't need to have a local branch! I moved to Co-Op earlier this year and have never been into a branch yet!:j

  • Oh wow thats handy the post office is down stairs from me lol! So the co-op set it up but its done through the post office right? Ive had so much information thrown at me today theres so much to take in! But i feel better knowing im admitting that i need help with my debts its a start! I have post natal depression but its taken me ages to admit it. So i used to order off cats to make myself feel better etc but now its just made my life worse! Sorry i dont mean to bore you all! But its nice to talk to people who are in similar situations. I tell my best friend and she tells me shes getting this and doing that- really rubs it in GRRR!!!
  • oh, and if you go here: http://www.cccs.co.uk/, there's a link in the second paragraph which looks like this: try our Debt Remedy service now.

You can also click on the box in the panel on the left, under "New to CCCS?", labelled "Complete your debt remedy".

Just follow the instructions as you go, you can save and come back later if you don't have all the details handy, just make sure you write down the reference number as you'll need this to find your forms again.

Good luck, if you need any more advice lots of people on here have done it so someone will be able to help!

    Hi HiZoeysmum,
You can also do all your co-op banking online! That's what I am going to do. They were really helpful when I did my telephone application.

As some of my payments will be/ are due before I have set up my DMP, CCCS advised me to make token payments to all of my creditors. I was going to send £20 - £30 to each but read on this board that £1 (as a postal order) is sufficient. After all, I'm going to stop paying them as much as I have been! There is a letter you can send with your payment which explains what you are going to do if you are pretty sure that is the route you are going to take. There is NO way we can continue payments at the current rates we are paying so a DMP is really the only way forward for us.

    Dear Sirs,

    Re:- Account xxxxxx

We are writing to inform you that we are seeking advice and assistance regarding our current financial difficulties. To this end, we are in the process of setting up a Debt Management Plan with the CCCS and our client reference number with them is xxxxx.

We would appreciate if you could hold any action on the above account for a period of at least 28 days. In the meantime as a gesture of goodwill we have enclosed a token payment of £1. Postal Order number xxxxxxx

Also, during this period, could you please freeze interest and/or any other charges accruing on the above account.

We do not wish to deal with this matter by telephone and respectfully request that all communications are made in writing. We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

This letter was sent by recorded delivery xxxxxx

    Yours faithfully

CCCS gave us a reference number to put on the letter - give them a ring if you didn't get one.

Hope this helps - I know it's a scary situation but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
    :)

  • Hi Sarriep,

That letter looks brill, did CCCS suggest that? All I got from them was a template "Notice of DMP" form to send to my creditors.... I start my DMP in October so have just made some small token payments to 5 of 7 creditors (the other 2 are loans and I don't have their bank details as they insist on DD, and I am not calling them to ask!

No no I can't take the credit for the letter! I found it on here somewhere (don't you just LOVE this forum!!!!)

I think it's a great letter and have used it for all of my creditors! If I can stop the (inevitable?) phonecalls too that would be great! :)

Ah does anyone know how interest free credit agreements are treated when appling for a DMP? We are just about to start paying DFS for our sofas.

Is it a loan or a hire purchase agreement?

I remember someone having a problem after reading the smallprint and I think they had to make a couple of payments then include it. Best thing would be to give CCCS (if that is who you are with a ring) and see what they say.
