Next question, how much of that is for food (2 adults + 2 dogs) and how much to offer DMP?
The end is in sight hurrah!
Ok you have 9 creditors? How much do you think you spend on food usually? Any vague ideas? How much does dog food cost?
I think the absolute maximum you must be looking at is £5 a creditor, but that would then leave you to live on about £200 a month - I know some on OS can do that - but even though I frequent OS board, I know me and OH would seriously struggle on that (without the kids). I would be inclined to offer them a quid or a couple of quid a month each, show the rest of the money as your food money, and ask if they will write off the debt coz you've only got benefits coming in. (National debtline has a letter for this - as has been suggested).working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Welcome to the board Bristoldebt and KPWLL. Well done in facing up to your problems. In a short time things will start to get easy for you.
Andy, that is a fab letter.
Ossireo, things seem to be going good for you.
Newlywed, your post was great. I'm of the same frame of mind as you now. Its debt - it's only money and it will be paid when it's paid. Meanwhile life goes on.
Right I'm nipping to the charges claim forum now to see if anyone can help me with Cahoot who aren't playing the game at all.0 -
If we had to we would have to if you see my point?!
In retrospect however hubby pays for dog food (Tesco Value complete dry + MIL gives us her which is a good mixer scraps at least once a week) and there does supply the odd bit here and there.
Suppose I have little choice than to suggest £1 - £5 per creditor. Thats £9 - £40 from my surpless of £247.33 leaving the 2 of us as you suggested £207.33 to live off to begin with.
I do have 9 (not including what I owe gas & electric company  ) but 1 I am in dispute over what the debt actually is, a completely different story  , so am currently refusing to pay it until they can prove otherwise it actually belongs to me!
 THANK YOU for your patience everybody,
I got there in the end :T :j
I will now complete the form that National Debtline has provided me and send them off tomorrow, recorded delivery!
At the same time I will send off my reclaims letters, and search around for cheaper living and a way to up my income from home?!
Whatever;) 's next? :rotfl:0 -
Hello all,
Just like to say I worry terrible,so here goes.
I have (yesterday) had phone interview with Payplan.they were very good and suggested a DMP.I would have liked to pay the vreditors more but Payplan said there were guidelines that even the creditors use to make sure people have enough money to get by.
So I accepted there advise,a hude weight was lifted until today.I now am worried the creditors will not accept my payments and send in the bailiffs.I am so worried about this,I just imagine these people coming into my house and taking my childrens things. That I couldnt bear.
I am going to proceed with the plan Paypal suggest but I am really pre-occupied with bailiffs.
Sorry to go on a Bit.

Forget Bailiffs.
For that to happen, the creditors would have to get a CCJ. If they go for that, the court will first make an order for you to pay a set amount (which is the amount that payplan have already advised as they use the same guidelines as the courts).
I think it is only if you refuse to pay that the bailiffs might be allowed.

Hello hellodolly,
don't worry too much. They can't just send in bailiffs. They would have so send you a default notice, a court notice, have it go to court and get a judgment against you and THEN have you not pay them what the judge orders - before they can send in a bailiff.
Whatever your creditors claim - they can't just snap their fingers and send someone in to take things from you.
You would have warnings, and you have to notify payplan if you do get notice of a county court judgment and they will advise you what to do and make sure your payment plan is amended so as to always meet that county court payment every month - to make sure bailiff's don't happen for you.
Any judge would see you are paying your debts, not trying to run away from them and you are trying to treat them all fairly and so isn't likely to issue anything unreasonable for you.
You're taking steps to sort things out in the fairest way to your family and creditors. Well done.
When you send your first payment off to payplan, you will feel much much betterworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Are you refering to the "Full & Final settlement" letter or a completely different one that wipes the debt clean?
An additional few questions (sorry but learning as we go):
What happens if income goes down?
What happens if I have to repay gas & electric from benefits or additional payments (therefore reducing surpless)?
What happens if I find out the creditor I am in dispute with is genuine and I have to include them in my DMP?
What happens if I decide to pay the £85 rent to MIL (against her wishes) as she is struggling herself?
Many thanks for the help & support. :T0
