I am about to request my pack from CCCS but I have a silly question, does the front or back of the envelope give any indication that this is from a Debt Charity. The reason I ask we are off on our hols next week and a friend will be popping in to check our house and I would be mortified if the envelope gave any indication that we were in Debt. I know I should not be but this friend in particular loves to tell folk how well off she is and how they have no debt at all. Today I have sent of some letters to creditors advising I am contact CCCS to discuss my financial difficulties.

no there are no indications who its from and its marked private and confidential

have read some awful things about them dreading speaking to them.

Just remember = you can always hang up on them :p

The only things they really need to know is that you are contacting CCCS, your reference number with CCCS (if you have it already) and that no you don't have any extra money to pay them - that's why you've gone to CCCS ;) Then hang up :D

  • Thanks everyone. Going to really enjoy ourselves cause who knows when we will get another holiday. Got a few more letters to send out to creditors. I have not yet signed up with CCCS just done their debt remedy but am just about to fill in our personel details. While typing this Barclaycard called I answered it, have been avoiding them, told the guy a wee porky said I have no money to pay today but I shall hopefully be able to make a payment next week (I will but it will only be a token payment) the guy was really nice said okay will note that on the system and said have a good weekend.

I have now had the letter from CCCS and things are not as I thought they would be.

I was led to believe that my available money would be split between my creditors as a proportion off the outstanding balance on the account. Now it seems that they do the split in relation to the contractual payment.

So, until now, I thought that NR were going to be getting more than their contractual amount but it turns out not to be the case. I am really not happy at this idea as I don't want NR upset.

I want to talk to other organisations to see if they do the apportionment differently.

What's payplans web address please? I did a search and got lots of addresses for various fee charging companies. I don't want to get suckered!

I may have to manage the DMP myself.

    Hi Andy

I have the same problem. NR are my biggest creditor but get a lot smaller payment than some creditors to which we owe only half of the amount owed to NR. As you say the reason for this to due to the contractual payments. If CCCS have sent you the payments schedule then they have probably sent this to creditors already as well. When they did this for me I immediately got a call from NR saying they wouldn't accept and would go straight for a CCJ (and then poss C/O). Well they have already issued the court papers and we responded and we have since had a letter from their lawyers saying that the reason they are not happy is because they are getting less money than other creditors that we owe less money to and tbh, I can see their point. They are deferring action at the moment, so I am considering cancelling my DMP with CCCS and doing it myself so that I can renegotiate with NR - I kind of wish I had done it that way in the first place, but like you, I thought that NR would get quite a large chunk, but not so :( TBH I haven't found that CCCS have been that much help. They haven't been sending payments to one creditor, and don't seem to know why, and our biggest creditor after NR is LLoyds and I had to keep ringing them and eventually agreed our DMP with them myself over the phone. It is convenient to use them as it is one payment and I do think some lenders take you more seriously if you have been a debt charity for advice, but in terms of going forward, I think I'm going to go it alone so that I have more control - some lenders will always be more difficult than others and without the restrictions of the CCCS DMP, you can decide who may need a few extra quid to keep them quiet. I understand about treating all creditors equally, but I do think that NR actually aren't being at the moment (not that I feel sorry for them, but if I can avoid a CCJ, I would really quite like to  )

    Hi,

CCCS's way of basing pro rata payments on the contractual payment rather than the amount of debt seems a bit odd to me. I'm with Payplan and thay base it on the debt rather than the payment.

I think I prefer that - one of my smaller creditors (a catalogue) had a reasonablly small debt but the contractual payments were large, they would have ended up getting 3 * as much as my biggest creditor. Seems wrong to me.

Sorry - doesn't help much. As said before if this is causing a problem with creditors you could always manage your own DMP or even switch to Payplan who calculate the payments differently

Hi there guys could I join please?

I was originally on the Bankruptcy board as I had been advised this was my only option but after looking at money coming in and going out in depth i had about 20 quid more than i originally thought which took me over the threshold for a DMP which I have to say I am ecstatic about as bankruptcy was something i didn't really want to go through.

So today I have done the Debt Remedy on CCCS website i got a bit confuddled so rang them up and went through a lot of it on the phone and all is ok to go through a DMP and they are sending out a pack through the post.

I just have a few questions really.......

Is it likely the DMP will be set up by beginning of July and that I will have to make the first payment on the 1st July? Or will it be a token payment to my creditors for July and make the payment to CCCS August?

Also one or two of my creditors I have not made payment to as I was trying to stick to a couple of contracted payments for higher debts, is this ok? and should I still just send them a token payment of a £1?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hiya Ikkle, good news that you can go through on a DMP and welcome!

From my own expierence, I contacted Payplan mid May, and my first PP payment will be going out 1st July. This gave me around 6 weeks to receive and complete all the paperwork from PP.

In the meantime, I sent a letter to all my creditors with my reference number and a token payment of £1.

As regards to paying a higher amount to the contracted / higher debts, the way I see it, you are going to break the contract soon anyway as you will be on a DMP, so I would just send them £1 for this month. This will give you a little extra in your pocket that you can put aside.

With 1st July only being 10 days away, you may want to make the full payment from August. Gives you a little time to sort out all the paperwork and will give you a little breathing space.

    Hope that helps.

You have come to the right forum - all the guys here are great and very supportive.
