Hiya,
You can get some great stuff from ASDA in the Smartprice range, if you have an ASDA nearby.
If you do puddings, their jelly and instant whip (both stawberry flavour) are under 10p each.
Instant noodles are 9p a packet - great alternative to potatoes/rice/pasta.
Sausages are 16p for 8 - I don't like them but Stepkids think they are great! I used them in a sausage casserole last week and they loved it - the sausages disintegrated a bit in the sauce, which made it really thick, and because they have a high cereal content the 'lumps' of sausage which were left swelled up - kids thought they were like 'meaty dumplings' and loved it!
It was onions, carrots, peppers, sausages, stock cube, tin of cheapest tomatoes (whizzed tomatoes with hand-blender - always buy whole toms as they are cheaper and blend them to make tomato sauces!). Simmered all together for about 45 mins to an hour. Served with couscous, but rice or mash is good too (or the noodles!)! This served 4 healthy apettites!
Jars of curry sauce are 9p (althoguh were 4p last week!) and sweet & sour is 26p - both good with whatever meat is on 'whoops' or failing that, smartprice bacon peices are good with the sweet & sour sauce.
Hope that helps a bit....i've got loads more cheapie recipes but better get on with some work or I'll be even more skint if they fire me! LOL!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

For OH's lunches, how about potted meat or fish paste? You can get 3-pack jars of Princes Beef paste for £1 in some supermarkets at the moment, each of which makes three rounds of sandwiches.
Cheese slices (the "cheese food" ones, not proper cheddar) work out at around 7p each, and a 10-pack would make a week's butties. Also how about one round of savoury and one of Value jam. perhaps with a packet of Value crisps - a whole lunch pack for about 30p a day. If there is a kettle at work there's no need for him to pay for drinks if he takes a bit of coffee or a couple of tea bags.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

If you have some rice , boil it, when cooked let it cool down and then fry it in a wok or pan with a very small amount of oil,add an egg, some soy sauce or any chilli, garlic and herbs you have. You can then add anything to this, small pieces of chopped carrots, onions, mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn, cabbage, leeks, a small amount of any fish or meat, anything at all, season well.
My family love this and call it bits and pieces rice, we often have it at the end of the week to use up any small amounts of leftover veg that I used to throw away. Good luck - You can do this

Great thread. I would suggest if you make a meal out of mince then try and eek it out for two nights. i am a veggie but I buy Tesco meat free mince or releat and I can get two meals at least out of a pack. All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0

Hi Just to add I always make my own mayo....just separate an egg (keep the egg white - you can freeze them, store them up to make Pavlova)..ok, put the yolk in your food processor (or a cool bowl) add a teaspoon full of mustard, any sort. Gradually (drop by drop) beat in oil, the oil is your choice, oilve is good, or sunflower or a mix..about 1/4 to 1/2 pint - mayo depends on the weather; you have good days bad days - its better if your eggs are not very fresh. Keeps in the fridge for a few days and you will never go back to Hellmans!

ooops sorry also meant to say Lidl flour is 36p. Tins of plum toms this week only 19p (so have added a few to cupboard), don't panic it can be done, you'll be amazed.

Depending on the age of your child, (little ones need more full fat milk) dont forget you can buy full fat milk and dilute it half and half with water and no one will notice if you dont tell them. Presto, half price milk :-).
For the future, I would suggest massive stockpiling of store cupboard items when times are good/ there are offers , dunt half help when the sh** hits the fan.
And dont forget, when you make it through the week to give yourself huge credit for this. Despite what ever's going on, you've fed your family and kept it all going :-D, a huge achievement. ((hugs))Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -
Hi angel
Is that all it takes to make pate, kidney beans and tomato sauce
What does zapped in the food processor mean?
*Sorry if my question's sounds stupid, I'm just learning to do home cooking*
Drain a can of red kidney beans. Put them in the foodprocessor and turn it into a patelike mush along with a couple of squirts of tomato ketchup and a sprimkle of pepper. I also add half a teaspoon of chilli powder but it depends if you like it hot. You dont want to add any liquid of any sort-I experimented with one lot and added a handful of allbran to dry it up a little. When its all nice and mushy, transfer it into tubs and put in fridge. It will be easier to spread than shop bought varieties but you get rather a lot for about 25p and its full of goodness!
Thats all there is to it! Experiment later if you like but the recipe above is what Ive kept to.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0
