Being me I would ask but realistically if they have not had the ok for you to work then might be hedging their bets? Might be worth asking the Physio calling "miss unprofessional HR" bod and stating you are ok to work!

Gutted. Didn't get the job. Makes the job I have so much harder to deal with. I had the hope of going elsewhere maybe in the new year, to get me through. But now. Feeling very sad tonight.

  • Hey!

Sorry you didn't get the job! Being injured and in pain, in a job where you are not happy and thinking of "home" can't be fun!

Chin up! If is not meant to be, it is not meant to be! When I first arrived i was too late in applying for a job at the Health Board that I thought sounded perfect. I was gutted, missed deadline by a day. But these things happen and if they do not think you were the right candidate then you don't want to work there anyway!!!

So KEEP looking, something else will come up, especially in January when everyone reassesses their goals etc and changes jobs or leaves for one reason or another! Also most employers stop looking for people at end of November as won't get someone in before Christmas, ESPECIALLY in New Zealand where the businesses all shut down for like 3 weeks at xmas! SO keep looking!!! Especially in January. You check seek or whether every single day. That will be your resolution! xx

Chev, sorry for the bullying you are experiencing, and that you didn't get the marine job. I'd email marine job and express disappointment and ask them to keep you in mind for similar jobs as you passionately want to work in their organisation. Nothing to lose, and I got an interview for a job 8 months down the line because of doing that.

I'd definitely put in a formal complaint about HR unprofessional now that your exit option has faded. Otherwise she'll keep haranguing you. Just checking, are you fit for lifting heavy items atm? You don't want to make the injury worse.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

So we are in the midst of a long hot summer. The boys are (more or less joyfully) spending lots of time on the beach this year with surf club. Both boys patched this year. This means that they did a sea swim of 200m in under 7 minutes and the trod water for a minute. Incredibly proud of both of them.

So we are staying. SIGH. In the end I just couldn't get OH to get his backside into gear and even look at jobs in the UK. And you know I kinda of understand his position. He has a good job here and has now got being a scout leader, and a surf lifeguard to enjoy. He certainly woulnd't be able to do the second in the UK easily. Our house in UK is pretty far from the sea!

Someone asked why we hadn't sold our UK house. First off when we came here the NZ/GBP exchange rate was $2.75 to the pound. Now it is $2.00. We would lose so much money on the exchange of money we couldn't justify selling it. Except for 6 months, in the 7 years we have been here it has been let all that time, and the rent pays off the mortgage, so it is gaining us capital for when the exchange rate does become more favourable. Should clear us about 100k pounds when we sell....

Secondly housing over here can be VERY dodgy. There was a whole load (in the 100,000s) of homes built, that weren't up to code and now are unsellable because they leak. When you are interested in a house, there seems to be no onus on the sellers agents to tell you all the stuff that is wrong with the house. If you don't ask the right question, they won't tell you. So I could be exchanging a perfectly sound house in the UK, for an unsellable one here and that is too scary at the moment.....

My job is 'interesting' as usual. I got one shift just before xmas, and that was it until the 12th January. Someone thought I didn't want to come in and didn't bother to check out their understanding. SIGH. This is a problem where the management don't speak English as a first language. For most things they are absolutely fine, but for nuances of the language they miss it. And then you feel a dork for spelling stuff out to them. It is a tricky balance. I must point out I don't have a problem working for these people based on their race, just on their lack of communication with their staff, and with other managers.

I have an interview on Wednesday. It is for an Editorial Assistant job. I had missed the deadline for applying, but found a contact form for the company and asked if I could still apply. They said yes (this was on Friday), and 3 hours later, I got a call asking me to an interview. So does this mean that they liked my gall, and are giving me an interview but not really seriously. Or is that they they are desperate!!!!! LOL. Anyway I need to do some serious prep looking up the company now. This would be a great job for me as I am always picking up typos in advertising and stuff so....

My issue at the moment is to try and find out what the going rate for the job is. I don't want to price myself out of the job by asking for too much, but don't want to sell myself short either. It is also full time, so that will be interesting with the boys starting school next week.

Which brings us to housing. We have to move houses to get the boys into the school they want to go to. We thought we had a rental to go to before xmas, but they rejected us as tenants. Don't know why. Now we have two other houses we are waiting to hear from. And the market has dried up. Both houses are too expensive really, but we will be able to squeak the finances if we are careful, and it I either get 4 shifts a week at my current job, or if I get the new one. (The students who have been getting all the shifts over xmas, are now going back to college so there will be more for me to have).

So now we have to wait, we can't get the boys into their preferred school until we either have a lease document or else have a letter from the agent to say we are moving into zone, just a few days after the start of term. So we shall see. I can see myself packing a whole house in under a week at this rate:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.

Right enough of this rambling. Time to peel spuds
