  • Have a dodgy hug lovely.

    And lots of love.

My DD and her 'other' family are moving out to your neck of woods at the end of the month.

Just seems such a long way away. I'm excited for her (she's supposed to be going for 4 months before uni) and I hope she comes back to the UK (I think she will) but its a thought to have her so far away.

    Love to you as always.

OO ! must look at your diary. I keep missing it and so the news about DD. Where are they going all over? Or just staying in one place? There are some awesome places to see over here so they should have a blast.
Thanks for the hug. I am up this morning and feel like carp. I have basically been sick for the last two weeks, first with a head cold and then with a different cold. I haven't slept properly for two weeks now as a consequence.

Also means that i havne't done pilates for 3 weeks and boy am I feeling it. I wouldn't have believed how much difference it makes to my back and hence my ability to sleep. Sigh.

I have come to the conclusion that we are poor! ............... People take it for granted ar scouts now that ds1 will need a lift to events because we have nly one car ................ Most peopke seem to be able to take days off over holidays/go away for a few days..... we can't afford this.

Poor is an attitude. I would say you are caring for the environment as well as your pocket by only running one [presumably necessary] vehicle. You could use it for weekend camping trips - that doesn't have to cost much more than staying at home, and you are rich indeed in choice of amazing places to explore!

I look at the kids that are in he teams/groups the boys are in, and their siblings watching on the sidelines have ipads/psps/iphones to play with.

Don't envy them. Whose children are more likely to grow up having the ability to think for [and entertain] themselves?

Without selling our house in the UK we cant buy over here. And even if we did, the house buying process is a nightmare over here, far more fast and loose with the truth than the UK.

Your UK house is probably a better investment, and I'd bet it's of much more solid construction than anything you'd be able to view over there in roughly the same price band.
Have you found a tenant for UK house yet?

Sigh, if we could just catch a break over here, ie job etc then it would make such a difference.

How far away from your 'local' weekly market do you live? Could you get there (perhaps with a RL friend who also needs work)?
If so, then look at your strengths. Are you a decent cook (is your kitchen up to hygiene regulation standards)? Then home-made treats on a market stall always sell well; bread, cakes, pies, quiches - anything which can be a 'different' snack-on-the-go..
As folk get to know you're there, commissions will come in; catering at parties, making celebration cakes etc. How about taking a basket of tasty refreshments to sell to spectators at your kids' events (good way to un-glue the other siblings from their iphones, lol - doubtless their parents have cash to buy snacks without thinking)?

If cooking ain't your thing, then what is? Up-cycled clothes and alterations, making jewellery, art-work, candles - anything which celebrates NZ culture? (I know a chap who married an Irish lass and moved there. After falling off a roof which ended his work as a builder, he started a new career making leprechaun-style-garden-gnomes. Uniquely hand-painted, they provide his family with a surprisingly good living).

Or maybe your talents could be utilised at a distance; proof-reading being the obvious example.

Chev, you are obviously intelligent and erudite - why not invent your own job? :)

I laughed when you mentioned that you had the NZ version of Outrageous Fortune over there. I watched it with horrifed fascination, when we first came out here. The really sad thing though is that some families here really DO operate like that....

Oh I bet they do! Just as there are plenty of families who behave exactly the same way as is portrayed on the UK version.
What I particularly enjoy about OF is the interaction, and differences between Maori and 'Western' characters. Plus, it is hilariously funny! :rotfl:
..Just wish it wasn't on so late, as only tend to catch the odd episode when ME sends m' internal timeclock haywire. :o

Hi all, thanks for the hugs, weeks ,waves and advice. Sorry robi n, but i have no skills like that, and you have to pretty much have a commercial kitchen to sell at markets here. i can knit, but you cant make oney out of that.

So i ither news OH,after much nagging finally made it to the dr for his well man appt. Only been 6 months! And so lucky that he did. They found his cholesterol is very high at 8.2!!!!! They have insisted that he goes back in for a chat. I havent the heart to tell him that they said he will need tablets......Thing is their is a history of it i his family.... Plus we eat pretty healthy anyway, so am not sure what we can do to improve his diet. On the other hand it cant help that during the week he often doesnt eat till tea time....

    Anyone with any advice feelfree

Sorry been chaos here just catching up on matters internet based! High cholesterol = need to Move more.

If the diet really is healthy then exercise will help. Get him to keep a proper food diary and exercise dairy so you can check out what the true state of affairs is. Doc likely to make recommendations about these plus statins. With focus on the exact foods eaten and exercise you can make some serious changes but it has to be sustained effort I am afraid!

He is at least taking it seriously and hopefully with medical advice wil be able to make proper long term Heath planning chances to manage that!

    Don't panic!
