Hi All
Well.... bit of an emotional rollercoaster at the hospital yesterday and to be honest I am still reeling from the full implications hence why I didnt post.
The news is not brilliant. The little finger now works but the ring finger (and now also the middle finger...which wasnt affected in the original accident ) dont. ...Although post op they worked perfectly for the first week .
Also The pain I am experiencing, which preceded the fingers stopping to work..... is not normal pain....so I have been referred to a hand surgeon in 4 weeks time. If the tendons have come apart again...it will mean waiting months for another more complicated op with tendon grafts._pale_..but ultimately it is fixable.
However...there may be another more positive explanation as to why it started out OK and then went tits up last w/end. The Occupational therapist I saw next (a lovely lady :A ) has said I may just have adhesions..where the tendon is still intact but has stuck to the scar tissue on the wound. So I have to massage the scar vigorously with E45 cream for 30mins perday and perform series of hand exercises every 2hours. In 4 weeks they can apply ultrasound if the tendon still hasnt been released.
So...I now have a white plastic scoop paddle (duck-billed platypus comes to mind)with cool black velcro straps (I declined the dayglo pink ones:cool: ) supporting the bottom of my arm, hand and fingers for the next 4 weeks. And I've even less functionality than I had with the cast as this big white plastic shovel prevents me even using my first two fingers to hold a cigarette or my thumb to pull my knickers up.So now I have to start from scratch again finding new ways to deal with everything....but I am resourceful...;)
But the real Bottom line shocker is that yesterday they decided to come clean and tell me it takes 12weeks....yes 12 weeks for the tendons to heal...so that means no driving, no use of hand, no clenching of fist, no lifting coffee cups, no packing etc etc with the hand for a further 10 weeks    .
And until yesterday I had been led to believe it would only be 4 weeks...the [STRIKE]lying[/STRIKE] misleading barstewards. I am so cross at how they have mucked me around.
Now all the plans regarding the house move etc and how I will cope over the next 4 weeks have had to be completely rethought based on a 10 week timescale instead. This may scupper the move date and all my other arrangements that I'd spent the last 2 weeks sorting out. I'm still trying to sort it all out in my head.
I cant go out and bid for work and I had to reliquish a £4000 contract yesterday because I just cant travel to the clients. I cant go back to my house for the regular site meetings (and snagging) required as it nears completion...which means the completion date will fall back. But also now it means I need to find someone to help me in the house, drive me, help with the pigs (3 of whom are ill atm  and need medication) and ultimately I am going to have to ask the RSPCA to rehome some of my piggies because I just cannot cope with them all if I am out of action like this for 10 weeks.
There's also a load of financial implications which I need to sort out...my bank account has been haemorrhaging money since the flood. My credit cards are maxed....And I have £20k to find to pay the builders for the flood prevention work that the insurance wont cover. All of which is going to have to be added to the mortgage (it's an offset with a drawdown facility cleared with the bank manager late last year).
But...one day at a time.....baby steps...I mustn't think about it all at once or I will adopt the frozen rabbit stance and fall to pieces again like last october....and I'm not going back to the black pit ever!!
First priority is to ensure the hand gets its exercises and massage each day. Next sort out help necessary for piggies and myself. Next sort out the build probs with the house, order carpets etc. and then devote all spare resource to the flood inventory to finalise the insurance claims while also getting back to the gym and keeping off the vino. (Ciggies come later) Work/income will have to wait, moving will have to wait, ebay/car boot etc will have to wait. The mortgage will have to take the strain.
But by the time of the Leeds meet...it should all be sorted..:j :j .
So watch out all because I wont half be celebrating
Thanx all of you :A :A for posting and for your continuing support. This is going to be a rather tough nut to crack now its gone out to 10 weeks..with no guarantee it will be successful..so please dont go away!
Love to all
Wol2
