Shouted at in car park - really upset!! - updated!

What a horrible woman.
Our car has quite a large dent in it where someone has obviously opened a door onto it and never told us. It is annoying and if we had seen the person we would have insisted on it being their responsibility to get it repaired. But accidents happen and i don't think that there is any need at all to be so mean. I haven't been driving long and hate car parks and parking and i know i would be upset if anybody had a go at me.now mum of 4!!!0 -
You should definitely contact your insurance company to report the incident highlighting your views on what went on and let them have the photographic evidence. State that you are only doing this for their information and that you are not claiming anything on your part. That way they will be in a position to deal with any correspondence from her or her insurance company. Under no circumstances engage in any form of conversation with her stating, if you does contact you direct, that she should go through her insurance. From your description I doubt that you will hear anything from her insurance company.0

i had the same happen to me a few weeks ago- i knew i didnt do it - so didnt commit to anything. in hindsight you should have allowed her to contact the police - and refused your details (she has your reg no)- by giving the details it may appear that you are admitting the "offence".
a) The police will not be interested as there is no personal injury.
b) It is an offence *not* to exchange details - in which case the police might get involved, but to the detriment of the OP!0 -
I would have been upset by this too and Im 43! I hate people like that! Awful woman.
We have been hit twice by other people within 18 months and then nearly hit by someone recently who wasn't looking properly (good job my husband was able to swerve out of the way). It is our very first brand new car - we've always had old bangers before. None of our old cars had so much as a scratch on them. So, of course, we buy a brand new one and feel like people are aiming for it!!!
The first time we were stopped at traffic lights and someone crashed into the back of us and the second time we were going quite slowly and properly around a roundabout and someone tried to cut us up and take the exit we were going past and hit us at the front. The first time the blokes tried to make out it wasn't their fault (we were stationary at the lights!) but changed their mind when my husband got out and got angry (he's not a huge man either). The 2nd time it was my daughter and I in the car and the 2 blokes are trying to make out it was our fault and the case is ongoing at the moment. I bet it would be a different story if my husband had been driving that time. Its so annoying when you've done nothing wrong and other people can't drive properly!!!

A similar thing happened to me OP - without the shouting, though! The wind caught the door of my 206 and it smashed into the side of a VW Golf (spooky!). It actually did a fair amount of damage, but nothing that couldn't be polished/pulled out (if it were mine, I'd have got the t-cut out and polished the paint off). There was no-one around and my first instinct was to drive off. But I went back and put my details under the windscreen wiper.
She called me later, and we agreed to settle outside of the insurance - it cost me £94 in the end, cheaper than my excess.
Funny how different people react differently. If the woman who shouted at you was that bothered she'd go through the insurance.
Honestly, it sounds like she's trying to big it up to get more money out of you. Some people, hey?
Hope you get it sorted...

i was informed by the accident bureau at the police that because both vehicles were stationary and not on a public road, you do not have to exchange details but registrations are sufficientGive blood - its free0 -
Hi
I hope you are ok and that mad woman has not upset you anymore
I just wanted you to know you are still in my thoughts.0 -
OK - an update!
The woman ady called me up and left an extremely rude voicemail (she even said 'so there' at the end and slammed the phone down!!) (and yes I appreciate the posters who say 'so would I be' but I cannot convey enough how much I did not damage her car, I am a VERY careful person and always hold my hands up and pay the price on the rare occasion I do something which hurts someone else, in any way).
She wants....£700!!!! For a 'new skin' fitted by a 'recommended Volkswagon repair garage'. She called at 11.30 and this garage is 30 miles from her house, so I very much doubt she had physically been there and had it checked. She reckons panel beating will only make it 70% of the 'perfection' (her words) that it was. I didn't make £70 of damage never mind £700!!! Added to which she wasn't offering any proof of this so called major damage, she wants a cheque!
We have had a good look at the picture we took and we can clearly see where my door wiped a little dirt from hers with the rubber seal, the dint she pressed with her fingers is a good 4 or 5 inches in front of that (ie, the door can't possibly have made a dent there, and a flat door would never make a circular dent anyway!)
I was so shocked! (She left a voicemail and I have not called her back). My hubby rang the supermarket and asked them if we could have a copy of the cctv in order to discuss with the police/insurance company. Unfortunately we are not on the cctv tape - the cameras pan over the car park and must have missed us.
So we called our insurance company and discussed the matter at length, they said don't speak to her again, they agreed it seems very dodgy she is pushing for money, and they say they can do tests to both cars if neccesary to prove we didn't make the dent, which we are happy about (because I didn't make it, and hopefully paint tests or whatever can prove this (added to the photo we have of their car and her finger marks in the middle of the dent).
I am feeling less upset and more angry, because I have never had such a rude voicemail, demanding cash, actually shouting at a voicemail, what's that about? I have saved it anyway in case anyone at the insurance company needs it.0 -
i'd have pleasure in calling her back, saying your insurance company will be in contact with them and if they have any further communication with you, do it via royal mail0
