    Rev,

Forgot to mention: be sure to take the battery out of it before you start any work on it!

Otherwise, the thing might try to switch on and boot up while you're in the middle of it.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Dunno what simple fixes you've tried yet, but let's repair permissions since it's simple and free. Goto Applications-Utilities-Disk Utility, select your hard drive on the left hand side (or maybe the partition, just below, and under one or other of the tabs will be a Check Permissions button and a Repair Permissions button. Set the laptop down somewhere solid (and connected to power) and click 'Repair Permissions. There's a progress bar at the bottom of the window, and if it had to fix anything it will tell you in the window.

Very basic and crude Logic Board test. 1. Make sure everything's backed up - if you've got a dodgy computer you've probably already done that.
Now, with the machine booted up, try pushing quite hard on different parts of the laptop, around the keyboard, pick it up and try twisting the laptop - as in left hand holding left side, right holding right, bend the left hand forwards and the right hand backwards, and vice versa. Don't go mad though!
If any of the above causes a crash, it's likely that there's a tiny dodgy connection somewhere inside that massive and complicated circuit board. That's bad news. There was a recall done on them that might be over, and is only for specific models - check here

That recall is earlier than my model, ive got the 133hz, G4 1.5g RAM 12" 2005> model, but thanks :) will have to try the crude test, but to be fair it crashes ever time I start it so it will be hard to differenciate between normal panics and 'crude test' panics!

What happens when you try to boot if off a CD/DVD (e.g. a system installation disk) or off an external Firewire drive?
