The built on memeory is indeed just under the keyboard, but its hard-wired into the logic board, no chance to replace it:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Yeah you can't do anything about the built-in memory, just think of it as part of the logic board.
It's true that a bad HDD can cause problems like that. Listen out for it making those telltale zz-zz-zz sounds.0 -
No unusual noises
but the last error report mentioned Airport? I dont have a seperate Airport card to remove but can you do a test on it?

Not that I've heard of, but most built-in airports are actually modules that you can disconnect (see somewhere like ifixit.com)0

Been on the ifixit website for the RAM info, didnt see Airport stuff but will check again, thanks:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Rated 'Difficult' to replace
if it turns out to be an issue, might it be worth upgrading whilst there? Any one tried/is using this...?

What difference have you or might you see?

An eBay one for a tenner may be worth a punt, as long as it's guaranteed to work:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. If you're sure it's compatible I guess you might as well upgrade it. But better to just remove it first and find out if that's the problem.
Doesn't seem terribly likely to be honest, the airport report might've been a coincidence, but if you're keen to get it working then it's one last thing to try. I'm surprised it's rated as difficult, I thought with the iBooks it was just underneath the keyboard (a doddle to remove). And the 1.33 ought to have an Extreme card in already?0 -
The earlier G4s have the airport card just under the keyboard but mine's build onto the side of the logic board inside the casing. You need to get the book completely apart to change it! My brother (who works on Mac's) is coming over tonight hopefully, so may be able to shed some light on the problem, Ive been working on forum advice and my own steam so far...
The next step may have to be laptop repair shop...and a 'bill':A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Totally totally disagree.. I've had an airport express for over 2 years now, and it is still working perfectly fine, and i've had no problems with it... this is with it plugged in, turned on 24/7

What the hell do you mean, you "totally, totally disagree" ?
The problem with Airport Express units dying suddenly and prematurely is widely documented all over the world. Thousands of people have expressed their grievance about it.
Even just a simple Google search on "Airport Express died" and "Airport Express dead" will throw up hundreds.
I'm pleased for you if the Markymoo household's own Airport Express has been trouble-free but it's highly irresponsible to commend to people on MSE a £100 device that has a serious reliability problem; those who then buy it may not be as rich as you are and be unable to afford to bear such a loss easily if. like so many others', theirs pegs out shortly after its warranty expires.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
