Who do you mean by "3G"?

The phone network "3" (which also has shops called "3") or a phone retailer called "3G"?

But the OP plainly said that their phone didn't display numbers.

Which makes me now wonder, I'm slow, its late, how the provider can block the number if they don't know what it is........... could be a problem there..

He cannot get the number because when he tries to find it via 1471 it has been witheld.

If "3" ring you they do not withold the number.

There is some info (and a phone number) about a company called 3G (which is nothing to do with "3") here:

Next time they ring and ask for you by name, tell them they need your Dad, then put the phone down and go back to the match/mowing the lawn etc.

They might get the message after hanging on for him coming to answer the phone for half an hour.

The problem here is the OP is already registered.

It doesn't stop calls coming from abroad.

After speaking to 3G in the shop today they said they don't have a HQ phone number....

I just think its carp that a company can be so persistent pretending to be something they are not, and not take NO for an answer

http://www.3g.co.uk/3GHomeAboutUs.htm the phone number here is the only one i could ring, and that was a waste of time

Independent dealers will phone and appear to pretend to be from a network, but "I'm calling on behalf of 3" is misleading and does not mean they've been appointed to do so.

Their (3's) High Street shop won't know anything about these calls, and nor will 3's call centres anywhere. And the website you found is nothing to do with the 3 network, and doesn't have High Street shops everywhere.

If these people phone again, ask them the name of their own company, and say you've never heard of it. Nearly all of these chancers will hang up at that point. If they insist, tell them you don't need a mobile phone contract and insist they remove you from their database. If they won't, demand to speak to a supervisor who will do so. Be creative and make them never want to call you. Perhaps blow your top and start swearing profusely.
