Hi Guys
Just popped into my local Homebase and they have a whole range of Philips Energy Saving bulbs on offer from 49p - 99p. Bayonet fitting and screw fitting, plus diff bulb styles and voltages.
I snapped up a Philips screw fitting equivilant to 75w lightbulb for my new Ikea light fitting - however, when I fit it, the bulb flickers when the light swtich is turned off. This doesn't happen with a normal bulb though. I suspect it is because the light swtich has some kind of timer mechanism built into it (don't ask me how it works, it was in the flat when we moved it - and woke us up by turning the light on at 3am one morning!). I believe this switch means there is a tiny current still running to the light even when the switch is off, but can anyone verify this for me - I want to be sure there is nothing wrong with the actual light fitting....Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I'm sure most people know, and it has been posted in other threads and forums, but since this thread has been revived from almost 2 years ago, I might as well add it here .......
MORRISONS are currently selling the "10 year" lifespan Philips Energy Saving Lamps in 3 wattages ( 8w / 11w / 14w equating to 40w / 60w / 75w ) and in both BC & ES fittings (Bayonet Cap / Edison Screw) for just 10p each.
You have to buy FIVE to get them for this price (5 for 50p) otherwise they are 39p each.

Can anyone advise how to claim for a replacement bulb from Philips as the latest has only lasted about 2 months. Incidentally I have yet to have one that has lasted more than 2 to 3 years.0

Is it a timer or a dimmer switch you have? If a dimmer these do not generally work with energy saving bulbs. I do not consider that any switch, whether timer or otherwise, should ever have current - however small - flowing when switched off. I would suggest you get this checked out by a competent electrician.Hi Guys
