Citizens advice discussion how much can they help?

Old post deleted due to me being a prat and not knowing more about what I'm talking about. :) And not knowing CAB are all volunteers which is great.

But CAB should be government funded!!! So instead of them spending money on expenses like second homes and nice healthy pay rises! (If we we're all on their money as our min wage we wouldn't be here!) They should look at spending it on things our country really neads, like our charity organisations and hospices etc!!!!! The hospice my brother was in was struggling to stay open at one point, as it was funded mainly by donation. it's a joke!!!

Hey, I thought this was quite funny, one of the ideas put forward was instead of expenses they get a lump sum of 40,000 pound a year on top of they're pay of over 60,000 as long as they attended parliment more. The less they attended the less they got.

I'll go and sit there and fall asleep for 40 grand if they like lol :)

Did you actually see a Debt Specialist at the CAB? I say that because me and OH initially made an appointment with the CAB, she was helpful but said we really needed to see a Debt Specialist to get proper advice. So I did my research on here, filled out majority of the BR form myself and then we went to see the Debt Specialist at the CAB. She went through the forms with me and was great.

    Conor,

    1. That's really good of them, I didn't realise they were volunteers.
    2. I don't like being called a moron, you don't know my circumstances and You don't know me. So don't judge me or people in my situation.
And 3. Your attitude stinks and you should be ashamed of yourself for speaking to ppl like that. Thankfully there aren't many people on here like you. I was just shocked as it was so hard to even make an appointment with them when it used to be so much easier.

Oh and by the way it's nice to see your debt free, lucky you seems like your circumstances are different to mine, and if I had anyway of paying my debts back I would and I'd sell anything to do it but I can't!!!

If you are having difficulty with the forms, why not ask on here, no question is stupid, it's only stupid not to ask ;)

Marste, I'm really sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the CAB. They are mainly staffed by trained volunteers (I am one myself!) who have to deal with all manner of enquires from all sorts of people, which is why most bureaus will have specialist debt advisors who are, unfortunately currently inundated. If you can imagine the amount of work a debt caseworker has to do for each client, and then multiply that by the amount of clients they have, then it's not uncommon for them to be extremely busy and highly sought after. Obviously this doesn't help you, especially as you have to wait up to a month for advice, but is unfortunately unavoidable at that bureau. However, there are different outreaches and bureaus that may be less snowed under and I would recommend seeing them. Larger town and city bureaus do get extremely busy, so maybe a smaller bureau/outreach might be an option?
