Hi,
I've not been paying much attention to the current debate on this message board much to my regret as it has been getting quite interesting.
In answer to a previous query about Powergen Energy Online tariffs raised by Mark Todd (see below).
Mark is not totally correct in what he says.
It is true that Energy Online was initially trialled on the uswitch website. Since then however it has been available nationally since 1 December 2003 (at the latest). We at The Energy Shop (https://www.TheEnergyShop.com) launched Powergen's Energy Online tariffs on that date and have been taking applications since. They are quite competitive and definately worth a look although only available to Dual Fual customers paying by monthly direct debit. They are also available directly via Powergen.
If you want to check it out before the others show it, please do use our free service at https://www.TheEnergyShop.com. It would appear that it is still a scarce product!
Thanks

3. By PowerGen - I assume that you mean the PowerGen Online tariff that is carried by uswitch only - this is a strange tariff in that until the New Year it is currently on trial and can be only be switched to via the uswitch website. As a trial tariff PowerGen advised ourselves and other services not to show the tariff. They do not even show it on their website!!! PowerGen are due to make an announcement shortly on whether the tariff will be made permanent. We expect to be given permission to show the tariff and should be doing so from the New Year when it will be made publicly available.
I hope this clarifies things. It is a difficult market place at the moment to make sense of however we do believe at Energy Helpline we do this as much as possible.

I seem to remember I asked the question in Sept as to why all the comparison sites give you a different answer to the same information just as alared and naimad have asked on this subject and no-one seems to have answered it.It's all very well to say use your own discretion and intelligence but what's the point in going to the bother of shifting if ultimately you are not getting the best possible deal.I'm still not any the wiser 3 months on! ???

CJ - trying to get the best deal possible is a bit like looking for the perfect man (pure fiction)!
The point is, if you never switch, you pay far more than you need to, FACT.
Shopping around for the best deal possible is like driving all round town looking for the cheapest petrol.
My message to you: find one that saves you a bit of money, forget perfection and live a bit.

Thanks for that bit of wisdom Tiger,I did actually switch about 3 years ago but have been too busy doing a bit of living to think about doing it again until recently.
I would have thought that finding cheaper fuel was easier than finding the perfect man but as the 2 cheapest companies on offer to me just now are TELECOM PLUS & ATLANTIC,which according to the discussions that have been going on here for months is like being between the devil and the devil, who would you choose?

Ok CJ here's my hot tip: check out the Scottish Power capped tariff. Prices are capped until end 2006, they can go down but they can't go up. Prices right now are pretty competitive and it's available via Simply Energy.
Hope this helps - it is definitely worth checking.

MARTIN,
I've tried some of the Gas & Elec comparison site and received some VERY different results. If these are based on the same tarrifs then why don't you get at least similar results?????
They ALL agree on one thing though. I'd save money by switching, but to which one????

This practise has been going on for a while now which gives me good reason not to use them. Simply Energy made claims to save you money by switching. In my case they made a total hash, Uswitch seem more reliable.
Martins done a lot of number crunching over the past year I think he will be able to advise on this one should he find a moment as he is very busy. For the time being if you go directly to the utility company sites and compare Tarriffs/Charges yourself it may be of some use.Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

Cheapest Gas & Electricity PLUS £20 cashback!
UTTER RUBBISH
The two companies that are offering cashback are not offering it on TP+ or the Atlantic Direct tariff.
Martin - technically speaking shouldn't your heading read cheap not cheapest? Are you not doing exactly what you accuse TP+ of, making unsubstantiated/incorrect claims?
And Cos why you reckon Uswitch is reliable is beyond me THEY ARE NOT EVEN SHOWING THE ATLANTIC DIRECT TARIFF - HELLO?

Lisa - I rarely poo-pooh what someone says on here, however Im afraid expecting a full explanation in the headline defeats the point. THe idea of headlines are they're a rough guide and then you read the article for a full explanation.
In the article i
1. Explain that it's worth checking on TP
2. Explain not to let cashback be the driver, let the best prices.

Ive been with T+ for gas and electric for some time now. There was a slight increase in gas prices recently. The rate is 1.33p/kwh any where in uk. Just multiply your usage by this amount. The standing charge is £1.50 per month. These prices include v.a.t.. I will happily show you how to get a written quote for both gas and electric if you would like one. more info at my site https://www.homeutilities.co.uk0
