I think there should be a sticky thread with the message - STAY AWAY FROM BG.No JOKE.

My property setup: 4 bed semi - 12 rads, 4 sinks, 1 bath, 1 shower.
Boiler: BG's Arch Nemesis : Potterton Powermax (9 years old)

I'll probably post the entire BG sales visit feedback some other time, it's still cracking me up.
Long story short, the quotation I received for the following

Removal of old boiler + New boiler (Worchester) + electrical wiring + install vertical flue + pump installation + powerflush + programmable room thermostat + 1 year homecare = £7,000 [:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:]

    *Edit
My initial post indicated the price quote estimated to £8,000, apologies for mistake on my part.
I probably was still in cloud 9 when I made the post.

As a counterpoint, I actually had an almost reasonable quote from BG. It was for a Vaillant 832 boiler, 8 radiators and entire install including vertical flue (which they have all tried to talk me out of), magnacleanse, wifi controller, full flush, inhibitor etc. as there is no existing heating system. Salesman was very upfront and said they were likely to be significantly more expensive than any local independents. Quote was £5700 for the lot, only £300 more than one of the local firms that quoted. Still way ott, but not as much as I was expecting.

How many months labour were included in that price? :money:

I wonder if anyone is keeping a league table to see what their highest quote is...

I'm not sure I quite understand the question, the installation job was estimated to take about 3 days.

I think he was being sarcastic and implying that the quote was sky high, and therefore there must be enough labour in it to pay the guys for months!
  • Oh ok! Nice one.
The BG sales guy probably thought he hit the jackpot of DENSE people when he came over.

After he gets the final quote calculated from the custom BG program on his Ipad, he assures me that he has no control on the derived figure, the program simply calculates all the data input based on my requirements and house measurements. Then went on to suggest, he could offer me discount on the calculated price of £100. When I heard that, it was like as if I had butterflies in my stomach, are you for real?

i wouldnt use an indepentent from down the pub/club. if i needed a boiler fitted asap i would use a Vailliant accredited installer, they fit a boiler which is the best no doubt. they then give a 7 year/10year warranty depending on what boiler you get, be it a smaller 24kw or 37kw. You then have no boiler cover to pay for apart from yearly checks to give you 10 years peace of mind. if you want your radiators covered get BG plumbing cover on its OWN for £4 a month ish and thats your rads and valves wall covered anyway.
