Rainmac, in Ikea they do a set of 3 cheap wooden frames, a couple of christmas's ago I did my sons footprint then let him loose with glue, sequins etc to decorate the frame. You could do something similar?

I need help!!! I can't find brown pipe cleaners, where is the best place for them?

On the offchance all you lovely crafty people take Wilkinsons out of busines with your flannels then Asda do some lovely ones, although more expensive at 45p each I picked up some brown ones.

    Afternoon all,

I'm back in the UK now! Can't believe the amount of pound shops there are everywhere! Some of them are great for craft supplies.

Quick question for you crafty types.... I'm planning to make some personalised diaries/notebooks (using hardback notebooks/diaries). After you have finished decorating them is there anything you put on as a protective finish? E.g. some kind of varnish or clear sticky backed film?

I looked at ebay for pipecleaners but they were £4 plus p&p  . I was going to try Hobbycraft tomorrow, I'll let you know how I get on!

Those frames sound a good idea, thanks! I am thinking of doing hand prints of both of them with a poem someone posted on one of these brilliant threads or framing one of their masterpieces (DS2 is only 18m so he can't really hold a crayon properly yet!) or a framed pic of them both or I could do different things for different people but personalising the frames is a fab idea, thanks Rusty :D

Forgot to say, I've bought other colours in Asda before, they are lovely quality flannels for the money!

Bet you did loads of shopping, I'm dead jealous :p

I wouldn't bother with varnish or anything, I prefer the au naturale look myself. Haven't ever done it so can't advise type of product to use - maybe PVA glue would work? Maybe someone else can help with some better advice!

I altered some books for the teachers pressies at school and used watered down pva glue to make them a bit tougher. It dries clear so dont worry.

Eeek! Thats a lot!! I did manage to pick up a pack of 3 soaps for 19p :D ... although only smart price stuff from asda... i don't want the reindeers being used as I am going to get my son to help with them and then they will be for family off the kiddies. Please let me know how you get on ... I will see if I can see any in local craft shop up here ... If so I will let you know and post some on lol

    Hi everyone :hello:

I've been reading with interest :)

These handmade diaries etc sound proper nice. Does anyone have any pictures for insipartion? I'd love to see some if anyone has any?

What kind of diaries does everyone use? Just A5 plain ones? Are darker ones nicer when finished? I'm really eager to give it a go, just need a gentle shuv in the right direction!

    xx

    Evening noggin,

I'm planning to use hardback diaries and notebooks from woolies / pound shop.

I'm re-covering them with funky paper, photos, embellishments and 3d wooden letters etc. I'll post some pics when I'm done!

Carolines Crafts website has some nice blank notebooks however the website is currently down as they are on holiday. Back online on the 29th.

I thought some of you might be interested in this: http://www.alteredelement.co.uk/epages/es108190.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es108190_es119921283844/Products/15007/SubProducts/15007-0005 its a kit to make a pot with flowers in. You decorate the chipboard flowers with paper/paint whatever and you have a lovely display. I couldn't resist and bought one but you could probably do-it-yourself easily.
