  • There are some lovely ideas for home made Christmas cards, but just thought I should share with you a problem my son and his fiancee had with their wedding invitations earlier this year......

The basic postge rate is only for letters/cards up to 0.5 cm thick - theirs were only a smidge over but most didn't get through. Not only did we have to pay the excess postage but also £1.00 handling charge. Extortionate:mad:    . If a guest wasn't able to collect the card, the post office went to the trouble of opening the envelopes, removing the offending decorations, and sending the invitations back!!!!!!!!!! How much cheaper would it have been to just pop them through the letter boxes in the first place?

................sooooo do check to make sure cards in their envelopes are no fatter than allowed.

susan - thanks for popping that tip on. Someone forwarned me last year, thankfully, in time for me to make sure the christmas cards I was sending went through at standard postage rate.

  • Susan that is such a good reminder thank you so much. What a shame about the invites. The world has got so petty I just cant believe it. I couldn't sit there ripping someones invites apart.

Nemotoad It always feels bad and scary until you are there and it is over. When you leave that building you will feel such a rush. Why don't you just allow yourself to be nervous and not try to deal with it because it is so natural. I am glad you shared your news here because it is wonderful news and I hope everything goes perfect for you x

  • Thanks Mel, that's really sweet of you. I think you're right that it's natural to feel nervous
  • I've finally managed to upload some pics; does anyone else find photobucket really slow? This is another decorated notebook:

I'm quite excited today as I just got a phone call from a local secondary school who have offerred me a days classroom observation which is something I need to apply for my PGCE. I feel like finally I have some idea about what I want to do with my life, and some direction. I'm quite nervous about the whole process, but at least I've got the ball rolling and have started to do something!

Good for you, sounds great :D Thanks for sharing your good news!

Oh Melissa, they are both beautiful :T Are they presents or for you to keep? What papers did you use, they are stunning. Love the pic of your boys, it's fab :D

    melissa your work is lovely!

What kind of brads/embellishments are they?? Are some K & Co as they look familiar?
  • Thanks Rainmac, they are both presents for my mum. I made them with that pad of hannah papers that I was raving about. I got it for 12.99 which was cheap, but I have since found it for 9.99 somewhere. Some shops sell it for 18.00, you get 36 12x12 double sided sheets of card and 8 sheets of embellishments, I absolutely love it. Eventually I want to use the rest to make a scrapbook for mum. Just let me know if you want me to find where was selling it for 9.99. I like it so much I am thinking of getting another.
  • Furrypig - For the shadow box I got the little flowers from a shop on ebay. The large flowers are just chipboard flowers that I have covered with the paper. I also just got a load of buttons and lace from ebay, and I used those on it. You're right the papers are k and company, I forgot to mention it before. The photo corners, and word stickers also came in the kit. Thanks for the compliment!!!!
