your allowed to draw out what you need for bills living expenses etc the OR will happily allow this...wont see you without any cash at all so take as much as you need to see you over just incase your account is frozen....but because its a basic barclays account you opened I would hope you'll be fine

So I make it known to my OR that the post office is only my bene which is all that can be paid into that account anyway. When I have my interview with them, they should'nt touch it?? I have all statements showing what goes in and out.

At moment my tax credits go into Nationwide, do will close account they say..... do i move them now to post office. Won't have statement of post office account showing them for 3 months.

Basically hubby's money pays rent council tax, his bills and all household bills. My tax credits and child ben we live from food, school meals, bus fares to school.

They shouldnt have any interest in a post office benefits account they didnt with mine I had...Is hubby going BR as well??

if not and the nationwide account is in HIS name only then the account will be ok...if your name is on the account as well then it could cause problems & possibly end up being closed

its All accounts you currently hold that need listing...one's you had & since closed they're not interested in

if your OH isnt going BR then the BR will show on his credit files as a link to you if you stay on the joint bank acc..making any credit he wanted difficult to obtain...you also run the risk of Nationwide closing or freezing the the account soon as they hear about your BR they aint one of the most freindliest bankrupts banks..your not hiding anything they see it every day what your doing is protecting your hubbies financial history/credit files

Just a word. Usually but not always, after you have gone bc you usually get a few min chat with the OR and they normally ask if there is anything that needs their urgent attention. It was at this point that i stressed i had my wages paid into my OH b/c(but that it had previously been a joint a/c so therefore it was on my SOA)and would like it kept open. He said he would notify the bank of my bc(as a curtesey,sp) but would tell them he had no interest in it. He did ask what amounts were paid in, so wether he checked with the said bank, before he said he had no interest, i don't know but it was never touched. Just thought it was worth a mention.D

Thanks for that, it helps to know I'm not alone.

You are not alone hun. I have been prescribed anti-depressants and have just finished filling out that form. Went to the CAB to see a Debt Specialist to make sure I had done it correctly, she was a big help. But I wouldn't have done so well with it, if it hadn't been for this motley crew on here. :D So keep posting!! xx

    Hi

When I went BR (about a year ago now) all my accounts were frozen with banks as soon as OR contacted them. I was able to open a post office account the day after I became BR though which just allows me to pay money in and take money out. Just before I went BR I was worried about my benefits and I phoned up the benefits people and they agreed to pay me by Girocheque which I cashed at the post office- they really don't like doing it and try to talk you out of it but it is possible. I was only paid by cheque for a few months until I could give them details of my post office account and everything with this account has been fine, although it is a pain to do everything with cash and not have a chequebook or debit card- all I have is a postoffice card which can be used at postoffice counters. Its really inconvenient but thats a small price to pay for peace of mind and keeping your finger on the pulse of how, where and when you are spending. Things I have done because I havn't got a bank account or credit card include:
-buying savings stamps for utilities and TV licence at the post office to pay bills as they come in
-paying cash to family members to write out cheques in emergencies
-getting my monthly wages paid into my dad's bank account and him giving me cash weekly to help me budget

To cut a long story short, there are quite a few ways in which you can make sure you have enough money to live on and pay essential bills without having an account with a big bank. After the way my bank hounded me, harrassed me, phoned me, threatened me etc (until I was a gibbering wreck and like you on AD) after the BR I really didn't want to give them my business anyway...........

On the plus side, just remember Simon Cowell was bankrupt at 28 and after bouncing back he is one of the richest men in the world..it can be done, people get through it and come out the other side.

Best of luck with everything Eselt

Well been to CAB this morning, have to do assessment th ing first. I now have the number to ring on Monday and my ref number. They are going to find my file from last year, as got same ref number. Hopefully they will get back to me with an appointment that week.

Guy I saw today wanted all income details, outgoings etc. Said it was household they work from. He said don't jump in and could set at a pound a week for most for many years and some may write off. I've been doing small payments, and just want an end to it all.

So do I still take all paperwork to cab and tell her just me wants to go br as apart from council tax all in my name even gas and elec arrears around 12,000 in total. Hubby has his credit card but thats it.

Hence just me wanting to file BR.
