So what you are actually saying is that you have claimed a full refund for a journey you actually did, saying you didn't travel?
There's words for things like that.0 -
Hi all,
I got some more great news yesterday. I have been advised that I can also claim for a refund for my return journey; although, at the moment, I am being told that I will have to pay a £10-00 admin fee and that I can't reclaim for my advanced 1st class ticket for one half of my return journey. I will debate both the admin fee (I'm sure that I will get this either reduced or cancelled) and my advanced 1st class ticket. Fingers crossed as they say !
Even if I can't get my admin fee reduced (or cancelled) and reimbursed for my advance 1st class single ticket, I have still got a great bargain. In effect, it will have cost me less than £30-00 for a return trip to my destination in Kent, which involved me travelling 1st class for half of the overall (i.e. both outgoing and return) trip. I wouldn't even have got anything like a better price if I had travelled by car to my destination.
I'll keep you all updated on my debate with regards the admin fee and my advanced 1st class return ticket.0 -
Chiltern railways
Saturday, we found a £5 ticket from Aylesbury to London single, HUZZAH.
First time we have ever seen this rare cheap tickets they rant on about in adverts.
BUT it costs £24 to come home again.
Return fare? £16
This is bloody silly
Shame on Chilterns false advertising0 -

£6 tickets are reaily available this Saturday for the homeward journey. And looking at some random days next week £4 tickets are also available in both directions every day No false advertising at all.
And it doesn't cost £24 to come home . A 'normal' single is £12.70. As Chiltern don't have first class you can't pay more than that.0 -

Just confirms my view with what a bargain I have got. Compared to Aylesbury, my journey was over 4 times longer in terms of both distance and time and I also travelled 1st class.0 -

Stagecoach X4 bus from Northampton Greyfriars Bus Station, to Peterborough Queensgate Bus Station. X4 timetable here.
Then First X1 bus from Peterborough Queensgate Bus Station, to Great Yarmouth, Market Gates. X1 timetable here.
You may have to phone for fares.0 -

Well an off peak return via London, including tube from Euston to Liverpool Street, is £55 odd. Splitting in London and using advance purchase tickets between London and Yarmouth works out at around the same price - so no help (£27.80 return to London, £14 each way thence to Yarmouth - and tube extra)
The following route might help:
Bus Northampton to Bedford. I'd guess under £10 return
Bus (X5) Bedford Cambridge - fare is £10 period return
Walk or local bus to rail station
Train Cambridge to Great Yarmouth. £19.40 off peak return - buy on the day, walkon ticket
So under £40 total
Another possibility:
X4 bus to peterborough
train to Norwich (advance singles from £6 each way)
train to Yarmouth (£5 or £6 single )
Cheaper if you can get those £6 singles, maybe not if they are more.0 -
Thanks to both of you. Very useful info. the bus route sounds ideal for me.0

Got some great news over the weekend. One of the train operators has given me an e-voucher as a reward for my patience whilst they process my refund. This means that my train fare is now effectively less than £10.
I'm still debating my advanced fare and admin charges. Fingers crossed it will eventually cost me nothing and I may even get into profit. I'll keep you all updated.0
