Can I ask if there is a way round something? I want to buy some tickets for my 15 year old to travel, He will need to pick the tickets up from the station where his dad lives. It says if you collect you need the CC you used. Is there a way around this.
My only other thought is to get them myself in my town and post them but worried they would get lost in the post.

also firstly went to railweasy and there booking fee was £2, then went to trainline and they charge £1, went through nationalrail which directed me straight to eastmidlands trains with no fee at all  but thats what I like to see :D

Cant work this out - got tickets first class advance for 6 March to London at the cost of £16!! from trainline. They said the return Sunday 7 March London/Norwich tickets not yet released. Surely its less than 12 weeks and they should be on sale by now?
  • Hi all,

Does anyone know the rules for getting a refund for a train cancelled due to 'advserse weather condtions' ? Before Xmas, I was due to travel to see family but my train was cancelled at the last minute. The next train didn't run until 4hrs later and I had no option but to make alternative arrangements; that is I didn't travel by train to my destination.

I was also scheduled to get a train back, which I had to cancel at the last minute due to illlness. Am I able to claim for a refund on this one too ?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

This National Rail page will help you understand the process.

BTW... avoid the trainline and avoid their fees.
Book via a Train Operating Company... there are links to all of them on the above webpage.

It depends on the type of ticket(s) and who you bought them from.

In the first instance, probably best to contact your vendor.

Can he not take some money to the railway station and buy the tickets himself?

    Just an idea.

The 12 weeks is an urban myth - there is some truth in it but a lot of the time it's not true. It's an aspiration rather than set in stone

    Having said that this site:

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html

suggests they have been released. Maybe they've forgotten to add that Sunday to the list of exceptions

And avoid thetrainline's booking fee by using a train company site

For the cancelled train there should be no problems - just write in with the ticket and claim.

For the illness one - if it was an advance ticket then you cannot claim (unless you can find out if the train was cancelled as well??). If it was a walk on ticket you can claim less a £10 admin fee.

I used this the other day which helped me find cheaper tickets than on the National Rail site - http://www.bestvaluefares.co.uk - a nice new site from ATOC (Association of Train Operating Companies) which picks up the cheapest train tickets for a journey (usually on slower routes). Seems to include all the offers from its members too.
