    Hi, I was hoping someone could help me.

    I want to travel from either Preston or Manchester (Preferably Preston) to London. There will be two of us travelling along with a toddler.

    I tried split ticketing from Preston to Leigh and then Leigh to London Euston, but the second leg was still very expensive. Virgin seem to have stopped their offer from manchester to london.

    Any advice?

    Dates, times, single, return etc?

    Dates are not final, but will be a weekday during may/june
    Id like to get to London for about 9am and leave about 8pm to make a day of it too. But times are flexible and we will definately need return tickets.

    Sorry should have mentioned these.

    From Preston, on random weekdays there are plenty of returns for £44 at the times you mention - is that better or worse than you have been getting?

    The returns portions are £12.50 with the more expensive part being the outward one.

    £87.50 from Preston. Anytime Single via Lancaster.
    If you're eligible for a railcard, this price can be reduced by one third (but of course you have to buy the railcard).

    Try this;
    Preston to Glasgow Central Advance Single £11.50
    Glasgow Queens St to Perth Advance Single £7.80
    Perth to Inverness Anytime Single £21.60

    Got the price down to £40.90 one way, there are other options using this split but give yourself plenty of time to make your connections

    Its a short walk from Glasgow Central to Queens St or a free bus ride

    I'll be visiting England from Canada in June. I've found a train ticket from London to Grantham via Waterbeach. Its about five pounds cheaper than buying a London to March ticket and only takes an extra 15minutes. I want to travel short and get off in March. Does anyone at the March station check tickets to see if they are valid and if so will i have to pay a penalty for getting off the train too early?
