I've got a 7 month old Grandson and he's being weaned at the moment.
I'd like to give him porridge but not the stuff in jars.
What porridge is suitable for him at this age?
I think mine might be a bit too coarse for him.

It would be fine, totally delicious- the raisins would be extra plump and the oats would be lovely and fluffy. I usually do this with mine overnight for a fast breakfast (but with water not milk)

Anyone else tried them?
No but I make porridge from oats in the microwave with a quickly chopped up apple and add a sprinkling of cinnamon when in comes out. One portion of fresh fruit and oats from a big bag are much cheaper.
Next time I'm craving choc in the morning I intend to add a square of (Lidl own) dark chocolate to porridge once its cooked.
Baby DS loves porridge made with normal supermarket oats and whole milk (cooled to hand temperature), he's had it from 6-7 months. I use the standard 1:2 ratio and just give him a few spoonfuls of mine into a separate bowl before I sweeten it. If you taste the disgusting paste they sell for babies I understand why they prefer cereal, but porridge is fine."Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. My kids are now 31, 18 and 16 and all weaned on readybrek then porridge, but I seem to remember about 15 years ago there was a hoohaa about weaning babies on oats...Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I add peanut butter to mine (just a spoon full), and a bit of sugar.
Or marmalade, mashed banana, cocoa powder (not all together, just listing options).0 -
my grandkids all love porridge - one just likes a sprinkle of sugar and the others all love it with golden syrup! OH has his plain - and I cant stand the stuff!0

we weaned my littleone on readybrek. He decided he didn't like proper oats porridge - i think it was the texture. But this morning, he ate half of my porridge with me - after he'd eaten his own weetabix! (he's 14m now).
I tend to take the view that he can eat anything i do, i just might need to puree it first. I only buy the jars for when we're out and about - although i do find the asda good stuff tins great for quick meals. but usually we just save a portion of whatever we have for dinner and mash it up for him. he's only got 8 teeth so far, but he manages all sorts and has been eating curry, rice, noodles, bangers and mash etc since he was around 5 months old.0 -

Last week I took instant oats in a tub with some skimmed milk powder, raisins and mixed spice. I added a cup of hot water (vending machine) once I got to work and put the lid back on for a few minutes. Was v tasty!Bossymoo
